Carolina Panthers Return to Play Coordinator + S&C Round Earther 🐒🦍🚶🏽

This is for the “just send kids outside to play” crowd… Kids should play. But let’s be honest—today’s world isn't the same as the 1980s. Less recess. Barely any PE. More screens. “Just go play” isn’t a system—it’s hope. And here’s what’s funny… We’ll pay for: batting lessons soccer skills private coaching …but hesitate to invest in athletic development? We train skills… but ignore the engine. Kids don’t magically become coordinated anymore. They need the right environment. Free Play matters. But Guided play and movement skill training can build real athleticism.” #LTAD

Coaches talk about "technique", but real learning is messier than that. Recent research on skill acquisition (from Hodges, Lohse, Davids, and others) is changing how we think about practice design — especially in combat sports. Here’s the gist 🧵👇 1️⃣ We don’t learn movements, we learn to solve movement problems. 2️⃣ Constraints and variability aren’t noise — they create adaptability. 3️⃣ The coach’s job isn’t to control, but to design environments. My favorite framework comes from Hodges & Lohse (2022), defining three different types of practices: -Practice to learn -Practice to transfer -Practice to maintain Simple. Powerful. And when combined with the ecological & challenge-based models, it gives us a living system for skill development. I wrote a longer breakdown (with all 5 key papers) in the Skool community — written for practitioners, not academics. 🔗 skool.com/agileperiodiza… "Skill acquisition is not about repeating the solution, but solving the problem(s)" --- Me ;)
