@galenhall Adding them mid tourney instead of having floorman monitoring the action, ie doing their job, is basically the WSOP making it up as they go along. It’s really embarrassing just how poorly this festival was run.

Galen Hall@galenhall·
As I said before, I am very pro timebanks in the main, but introducing them mid tourney is crazy. The "does it help recs or pros" conversation is glossing over a few key things: The first impact of a shot clock is that your brain now has to play a completely new game in addition to poker which is called "manage your time effectively." When you're taking a timed standardized test, most of your brain is trying to figure out answers, but some % of your brain is also constantly checking the time, evaluating whether it's strategically beneficial to speed up and answer more qs or to slow down and make fewer mistakes. This is a separate process that takes brain power and must run in parallel. Time management is a strategy game, just like poker. Often times a poker decision is very close, and I decide that it's worth more EV to save a timebank than it is to try to squeeze out some extra equity by thinking longer. Sometimes, I choose to burn timebanks on purpose to balance timing tells. Sometimes, I burn them to stall. It's a complicated game that requires thought, and like all games the more experience you have with it, the more it becomes second nature and can run in the background. If you're encountering this game for the first time, it will take up a disproportionate amount of your mind share. The second impact is added stress. Putting a timer on some people causes their brains to short circuit, and for others it doesn't faze them at all. Even if you give them tons of time, most people feel the effects psychologically. I think this is generally a GOOD thing - I find that shot clocks make most players act quicker even before they get close to the buzzer (i.e. folding in 2 seconds instead of in 5 seconds), although there are a couple players who chose to methodically take the whole clock every time. But again, introducing this in a huge equity spot as a surprise is so much worse than having it from the beginning where players have a few days to psychologically acclimate to the feeling of being timed. The third impact is speeding up the game, which obviously benefits better players as you see more hands, but I think that is a good and reasonable outcome, because more hands in general is more enjoyable and better for viewing. Furthermore, it homogenizes the number of hands each table plays, which is fairer. Then lastly, the question of whether the extra thinking time benefits pros or recs more is sort of a wash. High Roller pros benefit from more time because they think much more deeply about the game, while many recs have very simplistic ideas about poker and think the game is straightforward. On the other hand, High Roller pros are also much more used to the shot clocks and much more experienced with tough spots. Kind of a wash, I think. The players who are hurt the most are smart, thinking players who have studied some, but are not high stakes pros and have never been under the bright lights and big stage before. These players benefit a lot from extra time, and having several minutes to slowly work their way to a satisfying choice is very beneficial. In backgammon, (where time pressure is a standard part of the game) I am such a player - I play much, much better with extra time, while I think extremely good and extremely bad players improve much less.

@JamieKerstetter Jack Effel is a joke and he & all his mgmt minions need to be fired. He needed to be fired 10 years ago but that's a whole other discussion. He has now become a literal worthless figurehead executive. He was really good in his early years running circuit events & WSOP. Not anymore

@JonShoreman @Amanda_noouts @SavagePoker Dealers do not have any authority to kill hands when a player is sitting. Absolutely not. Usually a player will be on the phone while the pitch is going. He will continue to be on it till the action gets to him. Dealer will say get off. Player will say I haven’t looked yet.

New: Players must put in ALL of their chips or NONE of their chips to go all in. You will no longer be able to put a small amount of chips in the pot when going all-in and the dealers should be trained to push the chips back when placing the all-in button in front of the player. pokernews.com/news/2026/07/t…

@jeffplatt Simple Jeff. Get an objectively unbiased person on to explain just why the 2026 WSOP will go down in history as the worst dealt, worse floored, worst ran in history. Oh and now people only in the US have to buy ME coverage? Fuck off.

@RealOpusDog @Kevmath It’s the dealers job to know how to deal. No matter how tired, how burnt out, hungry or thirsty, it’s the dealers responsibility to do the job correctly. Small incidental mistakes happen all the time at poker tables. A mistake that changes history and cost somebody big $ nobueno

@RealKidPoker The idiocy of the rank and file racist WNBA players is what fuels more racist trash like this. If the hate filled black players had an ounce of common sense they would bow down to Clark for making that league relevant. Without her presence it’s worse than nothing.

The early leader for dumbest take of 2026. The mental gymnastics you need to go through to get to this take is fascinating. You want to believe he is just taking a side for clicks, but he says it with such conviction I think he actually believes it.

hello all! if one person shouldn’t have been playing the aldiss event, it should have been me. Aubrey was kind, welcoming and a good player to battle. I believe the @WSOP should get out of the business of having to police gender/sex and just make it an open event called the Ladies Championship for $1000 regardless of what your gender or sec is… and if a few dudes want to play for the wrong reason, the mockery of the poker world will handle that. and then we won’t have this world caring about what’s between anyone’s legs as much as what bracelet said person wants to win. It increases the prestige of winning the bracelet and will remain largely an all female event

@raniatalk @padspoker @Protentialmn @WSOP Couldn’t disagree more. When you allow men to play under the illusion of who they identify as, you’ve opened the door wide open to everybody and anybody to play. That is inherently unfair to all the women who want to come out and compete in a single WSOP tournament.

@msalsberg Q. Dr Salty, does the Wait and Snap portion of the workshop come before or after the “broken table intentional bb bypass” segment? I noticed it was employed by many students this summer…

If anyone is interested, this is one of the best, trickiest moves that I teach in my Angle Shooting Workshop. I call it the Wait and Snap. As soon as you hear dead hand and see villain smile you call. It's about as advanced as we get but as you can see can be super effective in game with additional future tilt to villain. Congrats to my prized student Stoyan on the perfect execution.
