I caught TDD virus at the start of my career, and this talk by Erik Meijer saved me! As often the case with snake oil salesmen, they take a good core idea (write usage code first), and turn it into a parody to sell books and courses to people who don't know better. This talk is 10 years old, but still relevant today. LLMs like writing A LOT of tests, but you must delete most of them and only leave integrational and e2e ones that test real system behavior.

I don't really have any motivation to learn haskell unless it'll be for a job or something since I need to learn a lot of category theory to really understand what all of that means Ocaml seems friendlier, though I don't see what I'd use it for tbh I like recreational programming, but I do need some practical goal for it otherwise I can't keep interested. You can still take inspiration from functional programming! Immutability, composability, but try to stay in the language you’re using. Conformity and style matter in the large. If you want to write in a functional style, Python is not the best choice. Use Scheme, Haskell or OCaml

Python has a reduce, but it's discouraged so much that they moved it from built-in to functools. This is essentially the reduce() implementation in Python, but there are some good reasons *not* to use it.

@valigo There are things I can understand every time I remind myself of them, but what’s the point if I can’t remember them? It used to be so easy to remember things, but it gets harder to automatically remember them and I find that I need to be intentional about it.

It’s sort of true that you don’t have to memorize if you understand, but memorizing can be a bridge to fully understanding.
