Very proud of the team for building this feature, excited to see it ship. It's a great balance of privacy and safety and has been a lot of fun to engineer. Don't be toxic 😅 dev.epicgames.com/en-US/news/tec…

It's weird living in the Triangle area of North Carolina and not really caring about college basketball anymore. I feel like I'm committing blasphemy from November until March. #lifegoals

@BarrettJ I’m wagering a guess this is in reference to Panasonic Sat serving on TransAtlantic AA routes. It’s actual ass.

First world problem, but having slow wifi on an airplane is almost worse than not having it at all. Need more Starlink connectivity!

@homegymcoop 100%. Before I was married, I used to love work travel and coming home was always a let-down. But now? Wife and kids? I don't regret the travel, it's important to do and I don't do it often, but wow am I excited to return home to them.

I guess my argument would be that it seems unnecessary for systemd to support that outside of the age-gate laws. There's literally no other purpose for it to maintain that info. Amd if that's what the devs want to add, then that's up to them, but it's like mspaint suddenly building in a feature to store a user's birthday - why would you need this feature except to restrict access to things? And the argument against these laws feels a lot stronger when they need to compel speech to comply, as opposed to saying "well yes but the feature exists, now you must use it."

@LundukeJournal I'm against both woke and age laws, but I don't have a problem with people adding in the infrastructure to make those happen. Unless I'm missing something? I usually use Linux via Docker anyway, so systemd doesn't really matter to me.

SystemD has added birth date storage in order to comply with Brazil and California Age Verification laws. Let that sink in. A Linux init system now handles Age Verification. github.com/systemd/system…

@BradRTorgersen As much as it's a cliche to say they don't make them like that anymore, they really don't. That's damn impressive.

I feel like the shift to "Sign In With (Apple/Google/etc)" has really made this hurt even worse. Sure, I'll create an account and share the password with my wife for something we both get value from, but having to have a persistent login session tied to my email account in her browser, as a trusted device, just so she can access the service? Nope. Too many potential things could go wrong. So bring on the family link capabilities, please!

Even if there's a slight upcharge, it's stupid how many consumer subscription services do not have some sort of account sharing plan.

If I had one mundane power that was too weak to qualify as a superpower, I would want the ability to reduce liquid of less than 32oz in volume from hot to room temperature at will. Why? Because my mouth cannot tolerate hot liquids and it burns the top of my mouth so bad it bleeds, even at temperatures my wife can comfortably drink. So I make myself coffee and then have to wait until it's cooled enough to drink. And I'd like a shortcut. Yeah, it's dumb, but it's what I want. 🤷

@felipe_mautner Very cool! I'm not sure if I'm at the point where I'd pick different flights over it, but it's definitely a great perk to know one would have it.

One of my favorite kid stories is the time we tried to get my son to eat mashed potatoes when he was 2. He LOVED yogurt. Ate it nonstop. So my mother in law took an empty yogurt cup, rinsed it out, and filled it with mashed potatoes. He hated it. And never ate yogurt again. Absolute failure on all fronts.

That's a lot of unrelated things to bundle together. I have no interest in ever getting notifications about recommendations or deals, but that doesn't mean I want to disable payment notifications... Ugh.

@4nt1p4tt3rn Inadvertent bit flips has caused me far more headaches than I ever want to remember. Even when you assume you have error correction, certain things can just be too fragile.

We also now trust some of the most critical aspects of our lives to the transmission of binary signals along copper or plastic lines. Signals that can be affected by, among other things, stellar radiation. Particularly if there happens to be no error correction in the protocol (thankfully, Shannon helped us learn that lesson, and we're pretty good about it now. But not always, and particularly not at the circuit level, which becomes even more critical when you consider our current solid-state data storage).

@4nt1p4tt3rn Steam engines, you say? I want nuclear powered trains. I don't care how practical they are. They just sound awesome. Aside: generation tech is really awesome. One of the coolest experiences I had was getting to see a pumped storage generation station back in the day.

Think about this for a second: Our most advanced form of electrical generation -- nuclear power -- does so by... ...boiling water to produce steam to drive a turbine. Nuclear power plants are essentially steam engines.

@BradRTorgersen @ZubyMusic The only hope I hold on to is that X at least seems quite motivated to tackle the issue. Will they be successful? Who knows. But at least they're vocal about trying. Meta? Honestly doubt it, but I use their stuff a lot less.

It feels like the overall experience of social media has dropped significantly in the last few months. It's not unique to this platform, but all of the ones I use. Am I alone in this sentiment?

This is exactly my experience. Luckily, I'm enjoying working out and feeling much better, but I can absolutely see the trap people fall into where they don't, and it's so hard to recover once you start getting older. Do yourself the best favor ever. Build healthy exercise habits. Strength AND cardio.
JN Fuller@jfullerucla

@DancingEddie_ I'm a little over 40. After 35 (maybe 37) I couldn't really process alcohol. If I don't work out I start to feel really tired and bad after a week or two. If I'm working out and not drinking, I feel 30. If I'm doing the opposite, I feel 100.
