@phhermans Ya that’s where I stopped too. So much more time and work to go deeper. Ear board pics are quick and easy to help understand if a hybrid is more length or row #. But only way to know kernel weight is to weigh em

@Bean_Doctor Thanks ! These are grain samples off weigh wagon. Three weighs to average out across the area. A sub sample. Should we do cob counts ? -rows etc .This was a quick snapshot YOY. Thoughts ?

@deutmeyer_troy That’s a neat comparison table! We see very similar things. I’m most impressed by your ability to keep track of all those different calls and soil tests during a chaotic fall 🤣

Agronomy Lessons from 2025 #1 IMHO (again) The "Basics" continue to deliver the most consistent yields year in and year out despite weather. Balanced base soil fertility, soil health/biology, uniform emergence & disease management focused customers weather the storm in most cases. Disease & drought tolerance, nitrogen use efficiency, staygreen, standability & economic yield come largely from these four items. While we always need to be learning & implementing new & innovative practices... these need to be your foundation to make others work.

@XtremeAgFarming @pivotbio Thanks for the trial @KellyGarrett75! If you wanna see a yield bump, then N needs to be the limiting factor. Otherwise we have lots of folks that don’t want to risk going that low but are successfully replacing a portion of their N and getting the same or slightly better yields

@jasonmauck1 Wall Street Apes is generally not a useful source of strong, validated agronomic research information.

The UW BeanTeam read a paper from @sethnaeve about redefining the critical period for yield determination in soybean. So @badgercropguy came up with and deployed an in-season FA&FindOut study! The @WISoyCheckoff @wicorngrowers funded drone sure makes these research ideas easy!

Why it’s fun to farm SC IA soils, part 1: Edina silt loam, 0-1% slopes. Easy-peasy, right? Take a look at Ksat (speed of saturated water flow). At 20” it goes from 30 mm/hr to 0.1, almost nothing. After a few 2” rains in the spring it doesn’t dry out for a long time.

Cool thing about leading a national team is seeing results from all over! @pivotbio looking good in early growth, earlier tassel, better staygreen, and bigger ears!

And to think 40 days ago we were concerned about terminating cover crops to preserve moisture?? Will count our blessing in the area I cover along Hwy 20.. to the north and south of us much wetter. Some areas wettest 35-40 days on record!
