@GUS_player_C The brokers have been the big deal and some act as if they make it so you don't short. A recent small cap on TZ was $600+/100 shares. Insane! That and you have 3 messages - Ticker available for long position only, No locates available, Single use, or price too high, no thanks!

There is minimum edge left for small cap shorts. Market and broker basically removed the easy trade edges. More skill and experience is needed now to compensate the high fee and crowded crazy squeezes. If your target is only to short 5-10% then 10% fee will kill all.

@ShortDaPos A lot of brokers have made it harder for traders with locate fees, restricting names to trade, and other "new" changes with the removal of PDT. I also think small-cap land is full of algos that add to the difficulty. Shorting is all but dead for many. Just my opinion.

The recent harder SC action is a sign that weaker participants have left the market, at least in my eyes.

@TheoryTrading The brokers are limiting who can short by raising the fees on locates. IMO, most are just not worth it with the locate fees involved. It's like they want to limit the number of people shorting in the space because the brokers themselves are making it really tough.

Serious question, is there anyone using @tradezero for shorting making any money? Also, this game was hard enough, but the days of stocks fading just seems to be gone as well. Maybe thats the new game. Let me know in the comments. @amberXBT @TheoryTrading

@TradetheMatrix1 They have made shorting almost impossible, especially when ADF's are few and far between anymore, which I think is a result of algos. PA is not organic from human emotion, thus the reclaims and pushes.

@BearfootTrading Most arent, some still are. I assume market makers do pay whatever the price.

I have never complained about market changes being responsible for lack of shorting opps. But there is one thing that really eats into edge or can make it impossible to extract those opps its high borrow fees (unless you go for all-day-fade on every trade which i dont). This year has been the worst in cost at point where I had to skip many great trades (yday $EHGO). I have said before that as more brokers enter this field the borrow fees will decline. That hasnt really turned true. Perhaps tighter borrow inventory and more competition for that inventory is driving costs higher? But that still doesnt explain it, there wasn't large influx of short sellers this year from my observation. #smallcaps

How can 1000 locates cost $1440 and @trade0us expects you to make money? Or is it they don't want you trading the ticker? It's why I don't short htb anymore.

@TheoryTrading @CriticalTrading TZ is extremely expensive right now. Maybe that can change but over the last year or so they have made it almost impossible to short small caps. Expensive locates and now they have a liquidate only list. Some of the names have come off the list to trade but you can only buy.

My advice to anyone that is dumb enough to keep shorting small caps once the floodgates open in two weeks. Find the three most ghetto brokers nobody has heard of. Make sure they create synthetic locates. Tell no one. “Just need to adapt, bro”. $RUBI $WNW $AMST

Some wishful thinking on PDT rule removal: If it actually goes through today (potentially effective within ~45 days), and initially applies to long-focused brokers like Robinhood and Interactive Brokers, we could see a much-needed return of strong long-side participation until DAS implements PDT removal, which I’m told can take a while. After that, we can only pray that the short margin requirements are much higher than now and dissuade newer traders from further infesting the short side of small caps. $ROLR $SNAL $MIMI $HOOD

@quantmindset Day after day its just dead. Ive only placed 11 trades this month. Paying bills in Feb by taking little 10% scalps on C setups. Feels like the whole economy/market is hanging on a thread and some big correction is about to happen. Looking forward to that.
