It means that everyone wanting to use the Internet needs to prove their age and ID. Once the government can get that info from the platforms it will identify and come for you whenever you criticise it online. Anonymity is dead. Free speech is dead. Nobody will criticise a Starmer if they know they’ll be visited by police goons looking for thought criminals. Sounds ridiculous, but it’s exactly what’s happening.

I don’t see the problem with why stopping under 16’s using social media is a bad thing. Can someone please tell me what the counter argument is? Why are people upset / concerned?

Its not a ban on teens under the age of 16 using social media, its a requirement under the UKs Online Safety Act, where websites that host adult or age-restricted content may be required to verify age can include digital identity services, photo ID checks, facial age estimation, and other measures.
