Software horror: litellm PyPI supply chain attack. Simple `pip install litellm` was enough to exfiltrate SSH keys, AWS/GCP/Azure creds, Kubernetes configs, git credentials, env vars (all your API keys), shell history, crypto wallets, SSL private keys, CI/CD secrets, database passwords. LiteLLM itself has 97 million downloads per month which is already terrible, but much worse, the contagion spreads to any project that depends on litellm. For example, if you did `pip install dspy` (which depended on litellm>=1.64.0), you'd also be pwnd. Same for any other large project that depended on litellm. Afaict the poisoned version was up for only less than ~1 hour. The attack had a bug which led to its discovery - Callum McMahon was using an MCP plugin inside Cursor that pulled in litellm as a transitive dependency. When litellm 1.82.8 installed, their machine ran out of RAM and crashed. So if the attacker didn't vibe code this attack it could have been undetected for many days or weeks. Supply chain attacks like this are basically the scariest thing imaginable in modern software. Every time you install any depedency you could be pulling in a poisoned package anywhere deep inside its entire depedency tree. This is especially risky with large projects that might have lots and lots of dependencies. The credentials that do get stolen in each attack can then be used to take over more accounts and compromise more packages. Classical software engineering would have you believe that dependencies are good (we're building pyramids from bricks), but imo this has to be re-evaluated, and it's why I've been so growingly averse to them, preferring to use LLMs to "yoink" functionality when it's simple enough and possible.
Daniel Hnyk@hnykda

LiteLLM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, DO NOT UPDATE. We just discovered that LiteLLM pypi release 1.82.8. It has been compromised, it contains litellm_init.pth with base64 encoded instructions to send all the credentials it can find to remote server + self-replicate. link below

It is a very problematic topic, but I would like to draw your attention to this issue - Russian suicides on the battlefield. They do it all the time. They know if they retreat, they will be tortured by their own. They know if they advance, Ukrainians will delete them. So....

@tbpn @mcuban What an idiot. I don’t want a robot. I want a house and a robot package. For the low price of $30,000 for robot and 2.5 mil to demolish house and build new one for robot comfort.

.@mcuban says humanoid robots won't last more than 5-10 years. Instead, we'll "design the house to fit the robot, and design the robot to fit the house." "You could create a house where the pantry, the refrigerator, and the washing machines were hidden behind the garage, if you even have a garage. That way you could redesign the house so that all the living space was for people."

@LeftAnimalFarm @niccruzpatane @grok The ‘300-500k mile Tesla battery’ claim ignores calendar aging. Time at high charge degrades the battery regardless of mileage — ~5% in year one alone. A 10-15yr old Tesla likely has 80-88% of original range. Not dead, but definitely aging. Cycle life ≠ total battery life. 🔋

@niccruzpatane @grok what % of Model 3s need a new battery after 8 years? Extrapolate to predict % replacement after 15 years. Then give same figures for BMW M3 engine replacements. Also how does a Model 3 Performance edition compare to the BMW M3 on the track?

@niccruzpatane That’s driving life. But battery’s have shelf life. They degrade without being used. No one can answer how long the battery will last. Yes you can drive 500,000 miles but that may all need to be done in the first 10 years because the battery might only last 12- 15 years.

This is always funny to hear. Batteries in a Tesla are designed to last at least 300,000 to 500,000 miles. That’s roughly 15–35+ years for average drivers (assuming 12,000–15,000 miles/year). Plus, every new Tesla comes with an 8 year warranty on the battery.

The problem for Jordies is that things have never been worse in Australia. He spent his entire career complaining about the Liberals. His entire brand is literally, "Wow, Liberals suck, right?". After the 2019 election, he even released a video stating, "A Liberal government benefits me. I would be on suicide watch if there was a Labor government. I've made an entire career out of paying out the Liberals. What am I gonna do if we have a competent government?". That whole act just doesn't stack up anymore as Labor are in power and fumbling the ball on just about everything. For Jordie to turn on Labor would be for him to turn on his own audience and to admit he mislead them into believing Labor would somehow be better. Labor MPs have to do the same dance by pretending everything is the Liberals fault. Integrity would destroy Jordies brand and his life's work would be over in an instant. So until the Liberals are back in power again, he's just going to have to grin and bare the death threats, and a rapidly declining nation with deteriorating standing of living because that's the only way he knows.

Arab gangsters tried to murder the most prominent left wing political commentator in Australia in a firebombing attack yet nobody in Australia talks about it and the entire Australian left basically has an omerta about it. The New South Wales police won't charge the Arab gangsters who tried to murder him. And the Labor Party won't do anything about it because they don't want to lose votes in West Sydney. It's honestly extraordinary. FriendlyJordies is literally the number one pro-Labor media guy in the entire country. He's probably shifted hundreds of thousands of votes to the Labor column at election time - I am not exaggerating when I say his work has been instrumental to the Labor Party's success, to the point that you could easily argue he's been one of the most important Labor Party figures of the 21st century. He's been hundreds of times more impactful than the average Labor Party hack backbench MP who just makes up the numbers in parliament for a salary. He's genuinely a prime mover in Labor Party history. Yet the Labor Party is happy to literally physically sacrifice him in order to avoid losing votes to Islamist identity politics voters in West Sydney. The NSW Labor government - which appoints the NSW Police Force - is seemingly fine with FriendlyJordies just straight up being killed by Arab gangsters. That's their revealed preference by failing to charge the culprits in the Alameddine crime family who ordered his attempted killing. How does this insane fact not change the way he sees politics? I don't understand how he can't recognise that Australia's migration policies have failed. He was literally firebombed by a foreign crime gang - how is this not enough to help lift the scales from one's eyes? FriendlyJordies, wake up. We do not have to have a single member of the Alameddine crime family in Australia. This was a strange and weird choice made by politicians decades ago and it's clearly been a disaster for the country. We made an active choice to welcome them to this country only for them to turn around and spit in our faces by killing dozens of people in drug wars while also promoting Islamic extremism. So why do we have to have them here? We could just deport them. FriendlyJordies, wake up.
