@BenAntilles

Just a simple man trying to make a few credits in this big crazy galaxy of ours. I like fast ships and stories crazy enough they might even be true.

A potential new job wants me to sign an agreement that says I cannot work for another additive manufacturing company within 5 years of leaving them. Is this unreasonable, or just new to me? It feels unreasonable. This is my trade, if they terminate me, I SOL???

@22Krystjan The mythic image of Luke Skywalker facing down the might of the first order and then doing a no contact lightsaber fight with his prodigal student, in a subtle nod to a similar duel he had in the EU? Thought that part was wizard.

@Authw8 By contrast, the Holdo Maneuver suggests that a highly effective technique has always been available to both the Resistance/Rebels and the Empire/First Order, but has never been used. They’re completely different kinds of problem.

@Authw8 The implication of Starkiller base is that the First Order could take a planet made of kyber crystals and build a planet destroying super weapon. This explains both why it hasn’t been done before and the problem it presents is addressed by its destruction.

@Escapissed85 You aren’t supposed to side with the bugs, you’re just supposed to be critical of the cartoonishly fascist government. The human government can be terrible without requiring virtue from the bugs.

@PulpCovers The reason for the silly discourse is that the director who wants to be a hip Hollywood nerd always goes on about how it's satire, but he forgot that he made a movie about humans heroically fighting gross space bugs completely lacking redeemable qualities.

I wonder how much Current Discourse™ about Starship Troopers is a result of people who've read Ender's Game, but not Starship Troopers, watching the movie and assuming both races of bugs are misunderstood in the same way and that we should always feel bad about killing bugs

@PulpCovers I think it has more to do with people being unable to conceptualize that the human government being bad doesn’t mean you think the bugs should win.

@WhaleOil2 Hopefully this was shelved on humanitarian grounds. Can you imagine being stuck in this thing for a ten day round trip? Makes me think of the old Mercury astronauts saying you don’t get into the spacecraft, you wear it.

@Strangeland_Elf It looks like a mix of his iconic black vest, the blue jacket he wore in Cloud City with the code cylinders from his brown jacket in the Force Awakens. A strange choice.

@SirBylHolte Did you know George Lucas made a Star Wars movie for girls? It came out in 1977 and it was called Star Wars.

I’ll say it since no one else will: Star Trek is made for MEN. Star Wars is made for MEN. Game of Thrones is made for MEN. The MCU is made for MEN. The DCU is made for MEN. Lord of the Rings is made for MEN. James Bond is made for MEN. Indiana Jones is made for MEN. The Witcher is made for MEN. Sandman is made for MEN. Ghostbusters is made for MEN. Terminator is made for MEN. Alien is made for MEN. Predator is made for MEN. Men in Black is made for MEN. Mad Max is made for MEN. Monarch / Godzilla is made for MEN. Charlie’s Angels is made for MEN. Doctor Who is made for MEN.. Women can enjoy these things, but they're NOT made FOR them. And "Starfleet Academy" is what it looks like when they are. Did I miss anything?

People don't understand Operation Cinder. It was like an initiation ritual, the Empire fully transformed into cult fanaticism. Oh, you're loyal to the Empire? Destroy your homeworld to show it. Defections were expected, and victory wasn't the goal. It was thinning the disloyal.

@MGecko117 People should probably read (not watch) Starship Troopers and maybe a few other classics before doing military sci fi, although I actually think lacking a proper military knowledge base will cause more problems than a lack of a sci fi knowledge base.

@SCShipyards Star Destroyer vs Enterprise is an interesting matchup, because the shields on the SD might stop the transporter, and it’s hard to compare their respective technobabble, but TIE fighters would not be a factor.

"Even a single TIE Bomber would wreck the Enterprise!" Well, apart from being entirely wrong, I have no idea how it would do anything with no crew onboard.

@Josh54129602 Indeed. We jump in games in a lot of places where in real life we might take a high step or climb, but it feels okay because we aren’t being impeded by something we should be able to easily overcome.

@BenAntilles @DannyVegito I agree. Jumping in video games spawned because it was an easy way to fix that problem. I don’t jump a lot but if I need to reach something high I climb on a chair. Can’t do that in a game that doesn’t let you jump.

@sawyeurism It’s not the line. The line just acknowledges the unearned laziness of Palpatine’s return. It’s that part we don’t like.
