Today is a good example of why I think it’s hard to blame Blake Butera for the most part. After a game in which he showed his inexperience last night, his 2 best relievers just came in and crapped the bed to blow yet another late lead. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

Here’s the tough part about the Andres Chaparro usage: Using him over Lui may not be a net positive in the moment. But I think doing so has absolutely kept Lui on his heater by protecting him from lefty matchups that make him revert back to old habits. You sacrifice the AB to protect Lui in the bigger picture. So the answer IMO isn’t “let Lui hit there.” It’s find someone other than Chaparro to fill that role. Don’t mess with how you’re using Lui whatsoever.
