From the Morgan inquiry: '...concealing or deny failings... for reputational benefit, and constitutes a form of institutional corruption’. Hope this makes lousy NHS trusts and charities pause for thought when prioritising reputation over truth.

Update: no apology from Paul Brand and ITV for their “exclusive” based on a misleading poll. Instead they have added a nothing-to-see-here note saying “Amendments have subsequently been made”. They are happy to publish shoddy data which supports AS. Draw your own conclusions.
Paul Brand@PaulBrandITV

EXCL: 65% of people back the assisted dying bill, just 14% oppose it, as it’s held up in the Lords. One dying man pleads with peers from his hospice bed to give him a choice. ITV News is featuring stories from both sides of the debate as time runs out. itv.com/news/2026-03-1…

Really disappointed to see how partisan some of the broadcast coverage on Leadbetter bill has been, especially from @PaulBrandITV @itvnews. A national broadcaster community noted on potential legislation which will lead to seismic changes in our health service? Shame on you
Rita Rake@rita_rake

@nmdacosta @PaulBrandITV @itvnews @Ipsos_in_the_UK @PigsAndPolling 65% of people do not support this bill. They might support the principle, but not this appallingly dangerous, badly drafted abomination. There is no professional or public support for it. To pretend that there is, is simply desperate propaganda.

If Scottish Parliament TV can’t even manage a working live stream, what does that say about running a state-sanctioned death service?

No relevant UK medical association supports it. No major disabled people’s organisations or charities. Yet here is @BBCNewsnight bigging up a hasbeen celebrity engaging in manipulative emotive guilt tripping. I do wonder sometimes why I still pay the license. I really do
BBC Newsnight@BBCNewsnight

"I'm just begging the House Of Lords to face the facts... please, please, let this compassionate, sensible, practical, scrutinised bill pass the way it was intended" Dame Esther Rantzen urges the House of Lords not to block the assisted dying bill. #Newsnight

If there were an arsenal of effective pain management I would be slightly less opposed. If I found the medical profession less negative about being disabled, that might help too, especially if combined with the creation of a fully accessible inclusive society.

Some good news. Credit to those MSPs who thought about it and understood and voted accordingly, especially independent MSP Jetemy Balfour, a rare disabled politician, who gets why it frightens the life out of us. I hope Westminster follows. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I'd add that the fact sick/ disabled people don't have choice over how they live their lives or access to health (inc mental health, palliative care) services is a political choice. So is instead giving them choice to die. Can people not see the danger of where this could lead?
Hannah Brown@HannahMargBrown

Pam Duncan-Glancy tells @heraldscotland she feels 'sick' ahead of the assisted dying bill as she shares her concerns over safeguards for disabled people and urges MSPs to vote against the proposals. Read the latest on our live blog: heraldscotland.com/news/25941972.…

I don't oppose assisted dying because I want people to suffer. I understand living with awful levels of pain more than anyone. It's just I know how little research goes into pain management. If we declare pain unbeatable & a reason to check out, that will never change.

In the end more MSPs understood that the risks were too great. For now. As this BBC headline makes clear, the battle is far from over. We must continue to make the case that disabled people's voices and concerns must be central to this debate. #post" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">bbc.co.uk/news/live/cx2g…

Tonight the Scottish Parliament voted NO to legalising assisted suicide in Scotland by 69 votes to 57 Thank you to the MSP's who listened to the evidence & experiences of all those with concerns about this Bill Hopefully Westminster will follow the Scottish Parliament's example

THIS is exactly why I’ve been calling this out from the committee stage. I watched them vote down safeguards for non-terminal disabilities WHY does an assisted dying bill assured ONLY for terminally ill people need those safeguards removed? This is why. It was the plan all along

PIP review.. My advocate asked formally for a paper assessment as the previous 2 had to be stopped as I was so distressed I couldn’t speak. My MP @josephpowell’s caseworker was assured I would have a paper assessment. Why then am I summoned to a phone assessment at 8am tomorrow?
