@PeteGravesTV @NE5westend Must have been very icy around the Christmas table then. He saw off another DoF, got full control (which no other top level manager has), saw his no mark nephew promoted, proceeded to bring in Wissa and Elanga (who he wanted for ages), who are the worst signings in our history.

@NE5westend Respectfully disagree. If the recruitment team had landed Howe's top targets we'd be in a strong position. As a fan base we dreamed of returning to places like the Nou Camp and competing for trophies? He's delivering.

Sickening defeat. #nufc minus Tonali/Bruno isn't same animal. Howe in/out isn't even a debate, he's performed wonders. Big summer ahead for recruitment team. Inability to land Howe's top targets early costing us massively. 7 games left. Big reaction required. Credit to #safc.

@MsiDouglas Ok - but this is the point ? The second half of that phrase is never full explored? They look a woefully set-up team. What happens at HT? Lots of players have got a lot worse this year in contrast to those called up. Elanga is uncoachable.

@BenMTobin He is clearly a good coach. An excellent one. Newcastle are worse because he hasn't had enough time to coach them... but if you want to play CL regularly you have to cope with that. They were desperate today.

All I'm saying we shouldn't be so reactionary in regards to dismissing Howe. We sacked Sir Bobby after two Champions League qualifications, because we had a shit start to the season. Then ended up with no Europe for years and the likes of Souness, Allardyce, McClaren in charge.

Nobody wanting Eddie out can give a realistic name who’d A - Consider joining us B - Would be an upgrade Quite a few wanted Thomas Frank after our bad run last season so bear that in mind.

@cjhhhh21 It's all way in the past. I do get it because over the time it's been brilliant. But the justification is never "I'm seeing us do this", or "I think the team is good at ...". Nothing is forward looking.

If someone could point out to ONE thing we do well under Howe then I'd sort of get fans who want him to stay but we don't defend well, we don't pass it well, we don't control it well, we don't play fast football, what positives are people seeing that I can't?

That's another game where a side worth a fraction of ours have wanted it more, we've seen us outplayed by wolves, Burnley, spurs, West Ham this season, what do we do well? What's our patterns of play? What are they being coached to do? Howe has to go

NUFC’s goalkeeper situation is chronic. There is zero faith or confidence in either. Ramsdale terrible for the goal. But there’s other issues. The lack of control in midfield, the lack of a proper goal threat, the mental fragility…

Another woeful second half performance from Newcastle United and another derby defeat. The fallout from this will not be pretty or pleasant. Big questions will be asked and it’s a long wait for another game to put it right. Sunderland did a number on them. You do not brush that off #nufc

@gw850 Getting a little bit tired of some of the tweets praising the CL run. We got to the point any English club should get to as a minimum, considering the league's advantage. Of course there were good performances within it but it wasn't some fairytale.

Things like this, just make us look extremely silly as a fan base. We lost 7-2 and that’s the long and short of it all. We’re supposedly aspiring to be the best team in World Football in 4 years time.. yet some still have the mentality that we’re a plucky National League side.
Liam Webster@kentonmags

Can't believe people on this app actually slagging the lads off!! We matched if not bettered the best team in the world for a game and a half, im proud of us and the run we have had in the compition! Onto Sunday #nufc #howaythelads 🖤🤍🖤🤍

@CraigHope_DM How come Gordon gets to tell Eddie where he will and won't play, but Wolt gets totally exposed in midfield - and subsequently slagged off by you? What is that if not horrendous man management?

FT: Newcastle 1 Man City 3 Strong & fast NUFC start (midweek energy) but that faded after taking lead & City dominated remainder Osula/Elanga didn't take chance, Woltemade midfield experiment is surely reaching expiry (especially against top teams) & it's clear a team without spine of Burn, Joelinton & Gordon lacks the combination of steel, aggression & energy they provide A poor night on the whole for NUFC, even if City were impressive after going behind

I might take some slack for this, but there’s been a lot of chat about how Howe should go if Sunderland finish above Newcastle this season. Firstly, let’s not deny that Sunderland have had a great campaign for a promoted side and deserve credit, and Newcastle, given expectations, have underperformed so far. Yet to me, this is very similar to the late 90s/early 00s. Newcastle had spent more on transfers than anyone else in the PL in 95/96, 96/97 and 97/98, and were one of the biggest spenders in England throughout the 90s. They didn’t win anything and actually regressed, finishing 13th in 97/98, and again in 98/99, and then 11th in both 99/00 and 00/01, after the 2nd place finishes in 95/96 and 96/97. Sunderland were promoted in 98/99, and then came 7th in both 99/00 and 00/01, whilst Newcastle were 11th in those years both under Sir Bobby Robson. Today we have a situation where a very similar outcome is possible. Newcastle have spent lots after a brilliant period that have risen expectations, but are having a difficult period now, whilst Sunderland are doing well after promotion. Should SBR have gone back then after twice finishing below promoted Sunderland despite the money the club had spent? Should Howe go if it happens now? No would be my answer. Expectations have raised at Newcastle and rightly so, but sometimes patience is required. SBR got things right in the seasons that followed back then and I’d back Howe to do similar now despite what is clearly a frustrating season at present. The summer impacted them badly, and getting the team/squad to the right place will take more windows. I appreciate some may not agree with me on this, but it’s my opinion #NUFC

@OfficielKaybaye The central conversation to me is do you want Eddie and his nephew choosing the replacements for Gordon/Sandro/Tino etc? On last summer's evidence, no. I don't think people have realised we could be even worse next year, though will have fewer games.

People seem to assume all will be ok next season, we’ll repeat what we’ve done in the past. Tottenham finished 17th after winning a European trophy and are currently 16th 4points off the drop zone.

@MsiDouglas @DanBell4321 @premierleague I keep seeing this 'right now' stuff Mark . We've been in the bottom half for a good portion of the season and had regular terrible results. People deluded themselves with 'X points off 5th', refused to engage with what was happening and thought another magic run was coming.

Newcastle v the top 8 in @premierleague this season: 8pts from possible 39. 2 wins, 9 defeats in 13. Nowhere near good enough. Last season v top 8: 17 pts from 33. I felt #nufc were accumulating momentum but back to the drawing board after today. Wednesday is now *huge*.

@agbnufc_ Why on earth would you trust Eddie and his niece to replace Tino, Tonali and Gordon after last summer's farce. And we could promise CL football then. What's the sell now? This could get quite a bit worse is the reality.

If we don't get European footy, we need to face the harsh reality that semi-rebuild will happen, some core players will leave. Sure we will sign promising players, but it's definitely a lengthy set back to our ambitions. Manager, players and recruitment deserve blame.

@Neilfarrington Who chose that initial formation Neil? Come on man. They were all over the place. Who pushed for Elanga when it was clear we lacked technical attackers? Agree on the professionalism front. But it's a trend. 12th is way below par and can't hide from that
