I know people want to take a break from Oscar talk but… there’s no way this isn’t getting nominated for Best Picture next year.

@BadFilmTakes1 The “bold and new” is less likely to be trumpeted in advance by definition (bc we are familiar with the familiar).

@staticbluebat Astonishing film. I think I still would’ve needed to give Oscar to Raiders instead but that’s personal favorite not what is the better film. I literally want to watch them both now though.

@briebriejoy On internet you will find no shortage of “bros” stanning X (doesn’t matter if it’s Sinners, OBAA, PTA, Pynchon, Scorsese, etc). I know you get engagement from drawing attention to them. Just know that finding a group acting stubborn/ defensive on social media is..not challenging.

Pynchon bros have gotta stop saying that anyone who disagrees with them is too stupid to get it. Their inability to make an argument rooted in the actual diegesis of the film makes this accusation feel like a confession. And the racial optics aren't great.

Discourse surrounding Perfidia proves that 90 percent of the audience cannot grasp a character written to have any complexity and depth. They need cardboard revolutionaries, not this. It’s a sign of the times when people don’t read or think but only consume and scroll.

@wellnotactually So I guess my point is. You will find no shortage of people on the internet who are like “Spielberg is the goat,” “Coogler is Jesus,” “PTA is great and if u dislike him ur a moron,” “actually Scorsese sucks”…etc. but the majority of film (and PTA) fans are reasonable.

@wellnotactually So. For folks who are like “this guy is a comprehensive fraud,” you…are just like, not correct in terms of what he can achieve with a camera. And for folks who are like “this is obviously the great genius of our time and if you disagree you are stupid,” I don’t endorse that.

Seeing Paul Thomas Anderson sycophants be upset that people are not as impressed and astonished by his alleged great filmmaking has been so fun to witness. They get to have opinions on everybody but god forbid u don’t like their daddy Paul
Josh Parham@JRParham

The way some people (not everyone) are talking about Paul Thomas Anderson like he’s some middling talent that was just discovered yesterday and not one of the industry’s most respected and celebrated filmmakers who’s been making revered masterpieces for thirty years.

@JRParham There are a lot of people online who have essentially seen movies from like the last 4 years and have incredibly strong opinions. They’re entitled to have their opinions but it’s also super weird and hilarious.

@BadFilmTakes1 Wow. He can be truly deranged. Anybody is welcome to have any opinion on film. It is subjective. And he is a good writer. But good lord. Ever since he was like “Amsterdam is a masterpiece” I was like good heavens I don’t think you’re trolling but it’s legit hard to tell.

Look, I love One Battle After Another. I love Sinners. I admire Marty Supreme and the Secret Agent. None of those movies are as important or great as any 15 minutes of Barry Lyndon.

@AKlay19 Incredibly different artists….Coogler has been a box office machine—granted much of it IP. PTA never was a populist filmmaker. Honestly a better comp is somebody like Spielberg or actually Nolan. (what Spielberg had done by 40 is not fair to compare to anyone).

Also, 2025 was just a loaded Oscars year that I think we'll look back on fondly. Compare the 10 BP movies this year to last year's. This year's depth far exceeded 2024, 2023, 2021, 2020, IMO. Best movie year of the 2020s so far. Hate that only one of OBAA and Sinners could win

@worldofreel Of these folks, the only ones without any Oscar at all are Linklater, Malick, Fincher, Mann, Haynes. Malick to me is the one that’s craziest? But I’m a huge fan.

Now that PTA has finally won his first directing Oscar, who is the next most overdue filmmaker? A few names come to mind: Quentin Tarantino Richard Linklater Terrence Malick David Fincher Michael Mann Spike Lee Todd Haynes Spike Lee Wes Anderson tinyurl.com/25verpz5

@PanasonicDX4500 It seems like people don’t understand that PTA thinks the French 75 were naive overly idealistic clowns and left a total mess. This character is not supposed to look cool/competent.

If a filmmaker can't be bothered to respectfully answer a simple but important question about how their work relates to the reality of society outside the theatre they not only have no business making films with those themes, they don't deserve to be praised and awarded for them.
