Getting ready for tomorrow’s battlefield tour. Pulled everything “Waterloo” off the shelf. Stack is ready… but I’m sure I’m missing something. What’s the one Waterloo book you’d add?

I went in search of the medieval Royal Palace in Kings Langley. There is very little to be seen, but you can peek at a building from the contemporary Priory. The Palace survives in the name of a pleasant pub and - bathetically - a bus stop. #thepastinthepresent

The village of Ivinghoe, Bucks. St Mary's Church is described as 'big and noble' by Pevsner. The red brick building is the Old Brewery House of c. 1800. Name is pronounced 'Ivanhoe' - and from an English excursion nearby, St Walter Scott derived one of his most famous characters.

@ScottMcCreaWest I still say they should remake it, shot for shot and line for line (even including the cassettes). There'll never be a better-scripted Bond film

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) is terrific, but it's one of the films I revisit the least simply because ... George Lazenby simply isn't very good.

@SDDonovan No preference. Not even for historical novels. Some people have very strong feelings about this issue

Do you prefer reading books in present tense or past tense?
