@HistoryBoomer This is just the toaster sex problem. If it becomes okay to say the first item, only people who say the second are notable. The discourse is moving because it rewards exception, but each group is smaller than the last.

"Too much immigration can overwhelm our shared American culture." [defensible] often becomes "I want to preserve the America built by my people." [errrr] which segues to "America for white people." [I did Nazi that coming]

“How are you all doing?” “Well, I switched to a game with sword-based combat instead of gun-based combat so I keep finding myself hitting a button to try to reload my sword” “No…no I meant like how’s your mom and your wife and” “Oh. They’re good!”

@ParanoidPol Vance is a loser in 2028 no matter what. I just wonder how he intends to remain relevant afterwards. I suspect Desantis has a similar worry.

The other option is Vance wants to create space between him and a future run because his isolationist wing hates some of the recent policy plays, and he thinks it’s a foregone conclusion that the GOP can’t win next cycle because of it. Spend a few years doing the podcast circuit after 2028, then come back if Rubio loses saying “I told you so.” Plan gets blown up if Rubio wins, obviously.

50/50 chance this means Trump made his preference known I’d think

@avidseries Each group is smaller than the last. Because it's the internet, once a position becomes a "normal" position, someone has to be more extreme to get noticed.

@wil_da_beast630 It's not single-handed. People don't get to push the responsibility of Social Security and Medicare onto Trump and wash their own hands of it.

@aziz0nomics This has already happened. Iran has already proven it can attack commerce to get what it wants, and everyone has to factor that in, regardless of any particular deal. The world had to crush them the moment they closed the strait, and the fact that they didn't was the green light.

The biggest danger of this supposed Iran "deal" it's that it's a green light for rogue regimes (who massacre their own people—that's how this started in January, remember?) to attack uninvolved international commerce until they get what they want. A blank cheque for terror.

@aziz0nomics The weirdest of these groups is the cyberpunk crew. They write about dystopias, but still very much seem to want to make it happen.

A lot of writers, and particularly science fiction writers, are just utopians who use literature as a way to promote their particular form of utopia (often a communistic one), and when reality doesn't match their particular utopia, they get really angry.

@eigenrobot Probably: Iran: "Yeah, we'll discuss giving up the uranium in the followup talks, after you've given up all your leverage." US: "Great! We'll tell the press they're giving up the uranium"

@baseballcrank This is the "this guy is the enemy of Trump" signal, to rally the faithful to put up their characteristic wall of horse manure. The fact that every day the number of faithful decreases from their incompetence is something they don't seem to understand

You do realize that attacking the president's former senior appointees in this fashion is not helping the Administration one whit, right? Like, who do you imagine was on the fence before this, read your tweet, and thought, "gee, these sound like people I should trust?"
Steven Cheung@StevenCheung47

Mike Pompeo has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about. He should shut his stupid mouth and leave the real work to the professionals. He’s not read into anything that’s happening, so how would he know.

@sunnyright What about Trump's administration has led you to believe Trump wouldn't make a terrible decision like this? He's a moron with no sense of consequence.

This is such horribly misguided “deal” that I’m left to assume it’s cover for Trump actually restarting military operations imminently. Because this is far worse than even Obama’s Iran deal otherwise.

No I think the notion that all we need to do is kill more people is stupider—and also evil. But hegseth believes in the lethality fairy.

.@SECWAR “The single dumbest phrase in military history was peddled in our Army only a few short years ago. You’ve all heard it — maybe in your first two years at West Point — ‘Our diversity is our strength’... Diversity is NOT our strength. UNITY is our strength... Our strength is our shared purpose. Our strength is our oath to the Constitution. Our embrace of Army Values. The idea of merit. Our mission. Our absolute commitment to Duty, Honor, Country. These are the things that unify us. ‘Send me’ becomes ‘Send us’ because you are ONE fighting force, just as we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD.”

Trump's approach to Iran is going to match the Democrats' approach to Hamas. First, get rid of all your own leverage in exchange for a future commitment from the enemy. Then whine futilely when the other party doesn't fulfill their commitment, because you have no leverage.
