A look back at Budget Day.
With the 2026/27 Budget now passed in the House of Assembly, I wanted to take a moment to look back at Budget Day and the work that went into delivering a statement focused on responsible choices and lasting benefits for Bermudians.
On Friday, 20 February 2026, the Government of Bermuda delivered the Budget Statement, setting out our priorities to continue reducing taxes on workers, repay $605 million in debt, and invest in our infrastructure through the largest capital programme since 2008/9.
One of the most meaningful parts of the morning was walking to the House with the Head Boys and Head Girls from our public secondary schools and hearing their questions ahead of the presentation.
Here are a few moments from the day.

In Washington, DC this week leading the Bermuda delegation to the DC Blockchain Summit, where lawmakers and industry leaders are discussing the future of digital asset regulation in the United States.
Our team will meet with lawmakers, regulators, administration officials, and businesses interested in establishing a presence in Bermuda.
I will also participate in a ‘fireside’ at the Summit with Raja Chakravorti, Chief Business Officer of the Stellar Development Foundation, to discuss our ongoing digital finance initiatives.

Over the weekend we honoured Bermuda’s athletes at the 44th Sports Awards, recognising a year of outstanding achievement by Bermuda’s athletes at home and on the international stage.
These achievements do not happen in isolation. They are made possible by the dedication of coaches, clubs, officials, volunteers, and families who support our athletes every step of the way, supported further by increased investment from the Government.
Congratulations to all those honoured this evening. Bermuda is proud of you.

We congratulate Christopher Cunningham of the Department of Child and Family Services, the February recipient of the Public Service Excellence Award.
Mr. Cunningham is recognized for stepping forward during a sensitive child welfare matter involving significant family challenges. Although the situation fell outside of his usual remit, he supported his colleagues during a home visit, applying his professional expertise to help assess risk and strengthen safety planning to protect the children involved.
His sound judgment, professionalism, and calm leadership reflect the highest standards of public service.

Yesterday evening, I joined brothers and sisters of the Bermuda Public Services Union for the installation of Sister Nadine Henry as President of the BPSU.
I extended greetings on behalf of the Government of Bermuda and the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, and congratulated President Henry and the new executive team: Sis Ashley Smith, First Vice President; Sis Kewana Swan, Second Vice President; Sis Erica Swan, Third Vice President; Bro. Anil Chattergoon, Treasurer; and Sis Shavonna Simpson, Recording Secretary.
The PLP and the unions share a bond forged over decades of advocacy for workers, and this Government remains committed to working with labour to ensure that every worker in Bermuda is treated with dignity and respect.
Congratulations to President Henry and the executive team. I look forward to working together to continue advancing workers' interests and strengthening Bermuda’s public service.

Yesterday I visited Elliott Primary School for their Career Fair, joined by the Minister of Education, the Hon. Crystal Caesar.
They also asked about the jobs I held before entering politics, which gave me the opportunity to share an important lesson:
No matter what path they choose in life, there are a few skills that are needed for any job. Listen carefully, never be afraid to ask questions, and understand that nobody is perfect and that mistakes are a part of learning and growing everyday.
It was great to meet so many engaged students.
I hope they left the fair encouraged about the many opportunities ahead of them.

Ahead of the Bermuda Risk Summit, I attended a private Executive Roundtable Breakfast hosted by Renaissance Philanthropy’s Climate Emergencies Forum on “Cascading Climate Risks: The Myth of Non-Correlation.”
For Bermuda and other island jurisdictions, these insights help guide how we prepare responsibly for the environmental challenges ahead.
I thank Renaissance Philanthropy and the Climate Emergencies Forum for convening this engagement, and I also acknowledge the technical officers and experts whose work on our oceans and environment continues to support sound decision-making for Bermuda’s future.

On Monday, I delivered opening remarks at the Bermuda Risk Summit. The Summit brings industry leaders together each year to address challenges no single institution can solve alone, in one of the world’s most important risk markets.
This year’s theme, Building What’s Next, is fitting. Bermuda recently recorded its first budget surplus in 21 years, reflecting the strong economic foundation behind our success.
Bermuda’s record of strong governance and trusted regulation continues to earn the confidence of those who choose to invest here. Always great to connect with leaders shaping the future of the industry.

On behalf of the Bermuda Government, I brought greetings to Bishop the Rt. Rev. Samuel L. Green Sr. and all those gathered for the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s 140th Session of the Bermuda Annual Conference at St. Paul AME Church.
As a member of St. Paul, it was a moment of genuine homecoming to address the Conference in the church that continues to pray for me and has supported me throughout the nine years I have served in this office.
I was presented with the Richard Allen Legacy Award, an honour named after the AME founder, Bishop Richard Allen.
To Bishop Green and Supervisor Green, I extend my sincere thanks for presiding over this Annual Conference.

Happy International Women’s Day to the women and girls of Bermuda.
This occasion gives us a moment to reflect on the remarkable influence women have in shaping our island’s future. The theme “Give to Gain” speaks to a simple truth: when we open doors for women, we open doors for progress across our entire community.
Today, we recognise the achievements, leadership, and quiet everyday contributions that women make in every corner of Bermuda. Their perseverance strengthens families, enriches workplaces, and enhances public life.
As we mark this day, we renew our commitment to creating a Bermuda where every woman and girl can pursue her goals with confidence, dignity, and equal opportunity. Our island is stronger when all of us can rise.

Yesterday afternoon, I welcomed fourteen visiting pastors and administrators from the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists on a courtesy visit, joined by Bermuda pastors Dr. Kenneth Manders and Pastor Damon Hendrickson.
They are in Bermuda for the March 6 Elevate: 8 Days of Hope Conference.
We spoke about the important role that faith leaders play in strengthening communities and encouraging service to others.
On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, I extend best wishes for a successful conference and for the continued work of your ministry. #ELEVATE

It was good to meet Captain Matt Stephens, Jan Arrowsmith, Ports Engagement Director, and Mali Fricke, Project Manager from the Logos Hope at the Cabinet Office this past week.
The ship’s visit gives Bermudians access to thousands of books and supports the wider work promoting literacy and learning in the communities it visits. I wish the crew safe passage as they continue to their next destination.
