A look back at the Digital Finance Forum 2026. From May 11 to 14, Bermudians joined participants from around the world for Digital Finance Forum 2026. Beyond the conference sessions, the Digital Payments Workshop and Market at Pier 6 gave Bermudians the opportunity to see digital payments in action with local businesses. The Forum combined industry discussions with announcements that highlighted the continued growth of Bermuda's digital asset sector. We welcomed representatives from Stellar, Franklin Templeton, Kraken, Coinbase, Circle, and many other companies from across the industry. Thank you to everyone who took part in this year's Forum.

The Digital Finance Forum took place in Bermuda from May 11 to 14, 2026. During the forum, I joined a panel with BMA CEO Craig Swan. We focused on the regulatory work that has helped position Bermuda as a trusted jurisdiction in digital finance. The forum has ended, but the direction is clear. Digital finance is advancing. I've been back from the Bermuda @DigitalFinForum for about two weeks now. The license announcement covered the formal milestone. Dual pre-operational approval from the Bermuda Monetary Authority for Bitcoin Suisse International, covering advisory and portfolio management for professional and institutional clients. I think this one marks a real shift in what we're becoming.  We started as a crypto infrastructure provider in Switzerland. Custody, trading, staking. Over the past couple of years we've been moving toward something closer to a wealth management platform. More institutional capital is treating digital assets as a permanent allocation, not a tactical bet. Those investors expect the governance standards they'd get from any traditional financial services partner. They just also need someone who actually understands crypto. I think we're probably one of very few firms that can credibly offer both. Bermuda made sense for a specific reason. They introduced one of the first comprehensive digital asset frameworks back in 2018 and the regulator is genuinely business-oriented. Together with our in-principle approval in Abu Dhabi, we now have an international foundation we didn't have two years ago. I also spent more time than expected learning about Bermuda's reinsurance industry. A world-class risk management ecosystem on a 21 square mile island. I think there's something instructive about that for where crypto finance is heading. Proud of the team that made this happen. When we started Bitcoin Suisse, Switzerland was our world. That's changed. One honest note: nobody warned me about the surprisingly cold weather.

Great to be part of the Bermuda @DigitalFinForum 2026 and to have Greg Benhaim, our Executive Vice President of Product and Head of Trading, speak on the panel “Managing Digital Assets: Long-Term Wealth Solutions.” The discussion highlighted the shift in client demand beyond basic digital asset access and ETF exposure toward more sophisticated solutions, including yield generation, active management, custody transparency, risk management, and institutional-grade infrastructure. As Greg emphasized, investors now want to understand what is “under the hood,” including custody, asset segregation, off-exchange settlement, counterparty risk, manager selection, and risk controls. Overall, the next phase of digital asset adoption will be driven by transparent, risk-managed strategies that help investors put assets like Bitcoin and XRP to work while maintaining security, control, and institutional oversight. They make crazy noise at night. 150 years later, the financial world is catching up. 3 days at @DigitalFinForum and a few things caught me by surprise: → Premier @DavidBurtMP is making sure crypto is in the day-to-day lives. Partnering with @circle / @coinbase — $100 USDC airdropped to 1,000 wallets, spendable at dozens of local merchants. → @stsdigital_io just had a landmark week. @maxime_sts_ and the team closed a $30M strategic round and announced the BMA Full "F" Licence- highest authorization in Bermuda, joining Circle, Coinbase, Kraken. I was intrigued by their platform: Options + structured products across 400+ tokens, built for institutions. → Why Bermuda? - Top-tier AML for Europe - Solvency II equivalence — only shared with Switzerland globally - US customs at the local airport. 2 minutes. I was speaking with global institutions moving trillion-of dollars on-chain. The understanding of what's underneath is barely there. The @lavanetxyz foundation and its existing contributors are quietly working on closing that gap. The interest level in Bermuda around this topic was exciting. Thanks to @kkolworld for the invite.
