Trump, the self-proclaimed constitutional scholar, is out here rewriting history and spewing nonsense about birthright citizenship like it’s a campaign slogan instead of settled law. First off, his claim that the 14th Amendment was only meant for the children of slaves? Pure fiction. The amendment’s language, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States", was designed to be broad on purpose. It was meant to guarantee citizenship to anyone born here, not just one group, and certainly not subject to Trump’s personal approval. Then there’s his bit about “unqualified people with perhaps unqualified children.” What the hell does that even mean? Citizenship for a newborn isn’t a job interview. You’re born here, you’re a citizen, no résumé required. The 14th Amendment doesn’t hand out test scores to newborns. And let’s not forget the classic Trump lie, "We're the only country that does this." Wrong. About 30 other countries, including Canada and Mexico, have birthright citizenship. But hey, why let facts get in the way when you can sell fear? Then he caps it off with his favorite delusion: that he can just sign birthright citizenship away with an executive order. Sorry, Don, but the Supreme Court ruled on this over a century ago in United States v. Wong Kim Ark. If you want to change the Constitution, you need a constitutional amendment, not a Sharpie. So, what do we have here? A butchered history lesson, a complete ignorance of how laws work, and a desperate attempt to make people believe “unqualified babies” are invading the country. It’s a racist nonsense, it’s unconstitutional, and like most of Trump’s legal fantasies, should be going nowhere. But then again with this Supreme Kangaroo court, who knows!
