Woe to the nation that builds monuments to justice while the vulnerable tremble unheard beneath the shadow of its institutions. The Department of Justice was not created to guard the comfort of power, yet many Americans now behold a government more swift to defend authority than to hear the cries of the afflicted. Since Trump returned to power, countless disabled citizens, frightened families, and ordinary people have watched accountability weaken wherever influence, wealth, or a badge stand at the center of accusation. And so the rot spreads through the republic like corruption through dying timber: truth is sacrificed upon the altar of loyalty, mercy is discarded for political advantage, and conscience itself is traded for the preservation of institutions already decaying from within. The autistic child, the disabled citizen, the mother pleading for protection are not burdens upon the state; they are the living measure of whether righteousness yet survives within the nation at all. But when governments protect power more fiercely than people, the people themselves begin to lose faith in the law, and a republic without trust becomes a hollow shell draped in the language of freedom while justice gasps beneath it. Let it be remembered that no empire falls first from enemies beyond its borders. It falls when its leaders grow deaf to suffering, when truth becomes dangerous, and when the cries of the weak rise louder before heaven than the promises spoken by the mighty.
