I feel like the Marleau signing is underrated as a terrible move not only because it cost them the pick to dump him, but also Matthews and Marner just never developed the intangibles they needed to in order to lead the team to championships. Clearly, Marleau was a huge influence on both of them but wtf did he ever win? Plus, it created cap issues way earlier than they should of had cap issues. And his on ice performance, big picture, had no impact. If he tore both his knees in his first training camp with the Leafs and never played for them the results from the two seasons he played would have been no worse (would have made the playoffs, who knows in the playoffs, probably still lose). So the Marleau signing would be mine.

@KeithSmithNBA Barnes is a number 2 guy being sold as a number 1 to the fans, the shine starts to fade and people get tired of the marketing.

I'm not calling out this poster specifically, but I've had a lot of this in my mentions today. So, I come in peace when I ask: Are Raptors fans really this down on Barnes and the team this year? Or am I getting a weird cross-section of the fanbase in my mentions? I feel like Barnes is coming along just fine and the team has had a nice step-forward season. Thought most Toronto fans were there too.

You’re crazy to say rebuild. If they are going to rebuild thy gotta wait until 2028 when they have draft picks. You have your stars for two more seasons and no picks. Forcing a rebuild right now just costs you extra and makes it more painful. Compete these next two seasons and if you fall flat you can trade for assets before contracts are up.

@Estreeter17 @WatchMyReview It’s quite easy. Hockey decisions in Toronto aren’t. They’re hockey decisions approved by MLSE corporate, who do not have the same objectives as ‘winning’. It’s a cancer they’ll never be able to fix without firewalling the leafs from the corporation.

Leafs are trying to find the next Dubas. We hired him as a rookie GM. Of course he made mistakes and he also learned from them. He gave out big contracts to the ‘core 4’ PRE-PANDEMIC. Cap was supposed to go up, it didn’t. Now we experienced the boomer, grit>skill GM. We have big D men that can’t move the puck. Leafs are missing playoffs for the first time in 9 years and don’t have a 1st round pick. Neither worked but I choose Dubas in a heartbeat.

The more I think about that press conference and all the gibberish we heard the more I’m glad nothing of substance was said. Pelley isn’t a hockey guy and he shouldn’t make hockey decisions. That’s a good thing. They probably shouldn’t have had a press conference at all.
