What is the fun of having elections if an elected representative cannot voice his sentiments. A very sad day for an already endangered democracy.

The same Jurisprudential Authority, Ayatullah Khamenie has issued a decree (fatwa) that it is forbidden (Haram) to insult Khulafa Rashideen or Sacred Tenets or Sanctities of Ahl al-Sunnah. Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama Appeals for Responsible Conduct and Unity Among Muslims Srinagar | July 7, 2025 Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama Jammu & Kashmir which includes both Sunni and Shia organisations, strongly appeals to all the respected scholars, preachers, orators, and community leaders of all schools of thought, to exercise utmost caution and responsibility in their words and statements at all times. The Majlis firmly states that the honour, dignity, and sanctity of purified members of the Prophet’s family (Ahl al-Bayt), and the noble Companions of the Prophet (Sahaba) — may Allah be pleased with them all — is a fundamental part of the faith. Any disrespectful remark or irresponsible utterance against any Companion of the Prophet ﷺ and the Ahle Bait is unacceptable. It exposes the malicious intent. It is highly regrettable that a well-known individual, who holds an influential position in our society, has recently made an inappropriate and disrespectful statement about Sahaba, which has deeply hurt the sentiments of countless Muslims in the Valley. The Majlis calls upon the concerned individual and expects of him, to clarify his statement which have caused pain and created unnecessary discord. The Majlis reiterates that since its inception all members have been working tirelessly to uphold unity and brotherhood among the sects, and to maintain it is the shared responsibility of all. Therefore, the Majlis appeals to all knowledgeable and influential persons and to all preachers to ensure that no speech or statement is made that disturbs the atmosphere of sectarian harmony in Kashmir. Internal discord among sects weakens us, and strengthen those waiting to exploit such situations. We also ask local media outlets and social media handles to act with responsibility and discreetly in reporting and circulating such controversial views. May Allah Almighty grant us the wisdom and goodwill to protect the unity among the Muslims of the valley and the Ummah.

The meadow, once blooming with spring, now held the silence of horror. Their clothes were torn, their bodies bore signs too brutal to be spoken of. The valley didn’t just lose two daughters that day: it lost its breath. But the crime didn’t end with their death. The real horror began after. The state called it drowning. As if the waters had hands. As if the bruises and blood could lie. As if Kashmir had forgotten how to mourn. They told us they slipped and fell. But the people knew: rivers do not rape. The autopsy was tampered. Doctors silenced. Witnesses threatened. And those who cried out for justice were beaten into quiet. But how do you silence a mother whose child was torn from her arms? How do you bury truth when the land itself weeps? Asiya wanted to be a teacher. Neelofar had a baby she’d left asleep at home that night. Their dreams didn’t end in that stream, but were drowned in courts, headlines, and cover-ups. Their story is not an exception in Kashmir: it is a pattern. A pattern of how the state weaponizes silence, how it turns mothers into mourners, rivers into graves, and justice into a cruel joke. But we remember. We remember Asiya’s youth, her laughter, her notebooks. We remember Neelofar’s gentleness, her child who grew up without a mother. We remember because forgetting is betrayal. We remember because our memory is resistance. And when we say their names: Asiya, Neelofar, we are not mourning. We are testifying. Let the world hear it loud and clear: They did not drown. They were raped. They were murdered. And they were Kashmiri.
