My wife, Nichole, and I are on a roadtrip. We’ll have to take some video! Today, we drove up CA 395 from the south. I love these Sierra towns! We stopped in Bishop, California and I popped into a BBQ shanty. I could smell the smoke a couple miles away. Among the best pulled pork I’ve ever had. And I’m from North Carolina.

After sixteen years of one-party rule, less than half of California kids can read at grade level. In math, it’s even worse. The people who created this crisis keep acting like they just arrived and had nothing to do with it. We need to get back to basics: Teach phonics. Make sure every child can read by third grade. Hold schools accountable for results. California’s kids deserve better than this failure.
