Had an excellent discussion with @JuneGoh_Sparta on the evolving energy crisis and the implications for Canadian crude in Asia, particularly Singapore. The opportunity for Canada is significant but only if infrastructure, shipping capacity, and economic security partnerships evolve alongside demand. In energy geopolitics, reliability is becoming as important as price. Kudos to @CAN_ASEAN for helping convene the discussion. #EnergySecurity #Geoeconomics #CanadaInAsia #Oil #IndoPacific #oott

🇨🇦Suncor just printed C$2.1 billion in Q1. Beat the street. While the rest of the energy world was on fire. Upgrader utilisation: 96%. Refining: essentially 100%. Production: mid to high 800 kb/d. Cost discipline finally showing up in the numbers. This is what the Iran war looks like for an integrated Canadian producer volatile crude prices lift oil sands revenues while wide refining cracks boost downstream margins simultaneously. Canadian oil sands don't touch Hormuz. No force majeure, no emergency ... Just 96% utilisation and a beat. When Gulf supply is structurally constrained and North America is the world's emergency backstop, the most boring, integrated producers print the best numbers in the sector.

Canada keeps being compared, through this whole document, to other G7 countries. Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to compare us to Australia, South Korea, Poland and Spain from a population, resource endowment, educational and technological development level? Maybe throw in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia?

Energy shocks expose structure, not just supply. India’s response to the Iran–US–Israel conflict raises a deeper question: how much is it willing to pay for resilience? Reliance on markets delivers efficiency, but not insulation. Diversification—often with stable but higher-cost partners like Canada—comes with trade-offs. Those choices will shape not just India, but South and Southeast Asia’s approach to energy security. #Geoeconomics #EnergySecurity #India #IndoPacific #Canada

Energy security in Asia is increasingly about diversification, not just price. Singapore’s refineries can take more Canadian crude, but the constraint is infrastructure, not demand. Canada has a potential role here. Once flowing, Canadian crude is relatively stable and low-risk compared to more geopolitically volatile suppliers. youtube.com/watch?v=WpedhX…

We are most pleased to present the Summary Report of the #Canada #Singapore Defence Industrial Roundtable which took place during the Singapore Airshow. We identified three priority areas of co-operation and 7 industry sub-sectors to focus on. In the annex we've also assessed the state of the Canada-Singapore #defence industrial architecture and suggested what improvements could be made.
