🚨 Our latest preprint is out! ☀️Can leafhoppers help us trace the impact of climate change on agriculture?❄️ After two years of original data, using historical data generated from other groups in the province, the identification of 34 000 leafhoppers, the modelling of the leafhopper population, the full characterization of a new phytoplasma strain, characterizing the microbiome of the most abundant leafhopper and studying the effect of insecticide (or lack of) on controlling leafhoppers we say YES and Let’s keep exploring this! This work was mainly developed by Nicolas Plante as part of his Master thesis and Jeanne Durivage during her NSERC summer internship and subsequent time in the lab as Aux de Rech, with the incredible support of @DumonceauxTim and my colleagues Charles and Valérie, and all the co-authors and colleagues from MAPAQ, a group with so much knowledge! This study is the momentary culmination of our first grant ever funded by MAPAQ (@mapaquebec) through the Program Innov’Action Agroalimentaire. I say momentary because luckily, we will continue studying leafhoppers, their ecology, emergent diseases coming with them and new and environmental-friendly methods to control them thanks to the @RqradQc, @mapaquebec and @FRQ_NT. We also must thank @MitacsCanada and @NSERC_CRSNG for their support! We need everyone to achieve Sustainable Agriculture! As we said in the conclusions of our manuscript, if achieving sustainable agriculture is a challenge, achieving sustainable agriculture in a changing climate is a colossal taskthat requires all the tools at our disposal. We hope this study is a step towards that.
