To our community, partners, supporters, and everyone who has been part of this journey. We are sunsetting the HUB brand until further notice. As you all know, the crypto market has been brutal for gaming and metaverse related projects, and even though we are one of the few projects left in the space, we are being forced to close operations because of a lack of funding and revenues. Our founding vision was that the world would move toward more and more digital interactions, which would lead people to demand virtual experiences. This motivated a big bet from our founding team on DAO managed virtual real estate in @TheSandboxGame , @decentraland , @SomniumSpace , and other worlds. We moved one step beyond the purely speculative bubble of 2021 and started creating tools that would help virtual worlds succeed. We created the first AI powered metaverse land valuation algorithm, as well as the first @chainlink price oracle for virtual land. We gathered an immense amount of data, which led us to create the first decentralized metaverse pricing dataset together with @oceanprotocol. We pushed virtual worlds forward in every way we could. We built countless metaverse experiences, headquarters, games, and all sorts of events, including the first carbon neutral metaverse event and the first community driven world editor for Decentraland. We were part of the @brincvc , @0xPolygon , Sandbox, and @IBM accelerators, as well as other programs funded by the German government. Together with our previously developed tools and experiences, we built a fully interoperable avatar portal that allowed users to truly own their digital identity in this upcoming world. We deployed this tool on EVM and non EVM blockchains, gifted thousands of wearables and avatars completely free of charge, and, against all odds, showed that fully interoperable identities are really possible. Even though we still stand behind the vision and believe that our tech is key to the future of gaming, we realized, like many other founders in the space, that crypto has never been able to move away from its degenerate and highly speculative nature. We also noticed that only a few projects in the space, mainly exchanges and DeFi protocols were able to generate sustainable revenue. For now, we have decided to make our tech open source so that anyone who wants to use our portal infrastructure and a full fledged avatar generator will be able to do so. We are working to ensure that the core assets, infrastructure, and learnings developed through HUB continue to live on in an open and usable form. We want to thank all of the communities that supported us, especially @lukso_io , which has been our home for many years. The HUB has been our baby, and we now have to let it go, which truly breaks our hearts given the amount of money and time we put into the project. But this is not the end of the vision. We are already building what comes next, and our avatar technology will live on through a new project we are currently working on. One way or another, we will continue pushing the future of phygital experiences forward. Thank you to everyone who believed in this vision and helped us push it forward. It's so sad and frustrating to watch media and people trying to use the situation to destroy the image of Dubai. I keep seeing comments like "you wanted to evade taxes and now you're stuck with bombs" and it makes me angry. Not because of the ignorance, but because of how little people understand about why we're here. Do you think it was easy for us to leave our home countries? To pack up and move thousands of kilometers away from the place where we were born, where our families are, where we grew up? To start over in a country where you don't know anyone, the culture is completely different, and they don't even speak your language? Nobody leaves home because they want to. You leave because you have to. I moved out of Italy 5 years ago, during covid. It wasn't about taxes but about watching a country fall apart. The endless uncertainty, a job market that offered nothing, working hard and still not being able to afford a decent life. I was exhausted from feeling stuck and surviving instead of actually living. So I left. Moved around for a bit, lived in different places, and eventually found Dubai. And this city opened its doors to me. It gave me opportunities, a community, a sense of safety and stability I never felt in Europe. But don't think for a second that it's easy. Don't think we don't miss our families. If Italy, if Europe, had offered us a dignified life, there would've been no reason to leave. We left because we were brave enough to build something for ourselves somewhere else. It's easier to drag down another country than to work on making your own better. But there are too many people profiting from keeping things broken, I doubt anything will change there. So to everyone making jokes about Dubai and mocking us for "escaping taxes", you have no idea what it took to get here. You have no idea what we left behind. You can keep talking. I'll keep living. ✌️
