B HODL WEEKLY UPDATE @bitcoinhodlco | AQSE: $HODL | OTCQB: $BHODF | FRA: $F5S Company Updates: A lot is going on in the background - both commercially for the business and in terms of what we’re building internally; we’re excited to share these with the market once we’re able to announce. In terms of general market positioning and the UK as an operating environment, we’re finalizing our response to the HMRC consultation on the taxation of stablecoins. We are making the case that any CGT exemption for payments should include not just stablecoins, but also Bitcoin when used for buying goods and services; if successful this could create a significantly better payments landscape in the UK for Bitcoin payments. It’s a long shot, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Several members of the BHODL nteam attended the 2-day workshop on crypto licensing hosted by @SimmonsLLP and @Gateway21_UK. The workshop covered the full gamut of "Crypto Asset Regulation, Licensing and Authorisations”; excellent to connect with contacts from across the industry as well, including friends at @Bittylicious_ and @okx. Media & Outreach: I joined @shoneanstey as a guest on the One Chair Podcast to discuss the latest Bitcoin and Lightning Network developments at our respective companies, sharing the latest from both BHODL and @LQWDTech x.com/OneChairPod/st… I was also a guest on the @PeterMcCormack show, talking about Rome, Bitcoin and currency debasement, with a short update on BHODL late in the episode x.com/PeterMcCormack… We have another podcast episode with @ArchieX__ at @bitcoinarchive, coming soon; stay tuned for release. Community: Last week's Free Sats Friday event was a little different, being sponsored by @VivaCento. If you’re looking to market your company, product or service and are interested in sponsoring in the future, please get in touch! x.com/bitcoinhodlco/… The BHODL sock giveaway campaign continues and will likely do so until we run out of socks. Keep an eye out for our posts on the topic. We’re ending the week with a long-awaited pump in the Bitcoin price, and as ever, send thanks to our shareholders and community for their continuing support.

❓Why did @hodlonaut retract his support for BIP110? I listened to his conversation with @knutsvanholm to extract the key concerns. (tl;dr at the bottom) --- Hodlonaut is not against BIP110, in fact he applauds it, and he applauds the plebs who fight for Bitcoin's future. He initially supported BIP110 because - Core's dismissive and arrogant attitude is repulsive - The standardizing of arbitrary data is unacceptable - He firmly believes Core must be countered - The timing of the Citrea launch was suspicious - Bad-faith arguments from the Core side makes him sympathetic to the other side - Observing "wokeification" in Core; woke politics and DEI However, he hasn't resolved the following points about BIP110 yet. He says he wants to make sure the BIP is a responsible counter measure to v30, and he refuses to die on a hill he doesn't fully understand. The sum of these doubts made him rethink his position: 1. The urgent "now or never narrative" makes him draw parallels to Roger Ver's blocksize war rhetoric: "Children are dying, we must act now." It makes him cautious rather than mobilized. 2. The CSAM argument isn't as clear-cut as people claim. He agrees CSAM is disgusting. But he doesn't believe Bitcoin instantly dies the moment an illegal image lands on-chain. The black-and-white framing feels exaggerated to him. 3. The governance vacuum creates uncertainty. Who leads the post-BIP110 landscape? Whether it's @LukeDashjr, @dathon_ohm or @GrassFedBitcoin, is a real and unresolved concern. 4. Possible loss of funds for edge-case users. Some UTXOs could theoretically become unspendable under BIP110 rules. He acknowledges Knut's "FAFO scale", which relates to the risks of innovating on Bitcoin. 5. The uncertainty around how consensus forms after the year ends, who leads it, and what BIP110 locks in for the future. 6. He wonders whether it's necessary to forcefully fight spam already now, and if the damage would be irreversible if we fought spam in year 15, 16 or 17 (starting from Taproot activation). --- I personally respect Hodlonaut tremendously for speaking his mind. His credibility is not damaged in my eyes at all, and I think many people feel the same way. At one point he said "fuck all this innovation on bitcoin, we already have something that is completely disruptive to the worst shit going on in the world because of the monetary system, why risk it?". I couldn't agree more. --- tl;dr Hodlonaut is undecided. He's not sure BIP110 is the sharpest tool for to counter Core. He's therefore taking a cautious stance, although he says sitting around and doing nothing for a long time is harmful. He's self-critical and ashamed about jumping in support of BIP110 early while emotional and under-informed. He's not going back into support until he can confidently answer the above issues. If he comes back, he says he's dying on that hill. (If I've misrepresented something, please correct me). --- This piece is not a substitute for listening to the conversation. Give it the listen it deserves.

As #bitcoin history seems to be repeating itself on the socials, we want to remind all: Big Blocks Bad. OK? The battle was won definitively in 2017, and subsequent years have resulted in applications being built proving it was the right choice (e.g. Lightning).

@theMacroChip @therationalroot @SamuelPatt I'm not sure why you say that really. We were able to set up a lightning mode, admittedly with not an insignificant amount of Bitcoin, and it routes wonderfully. We didn't ask anyone for permission.

I co-founded a Bitcoin company (building OpenBazaar) in 2015, right before the block size war went hot. The idea that Roger Ver was launching a corporate takeover of Bitcoin is absolute nonsense. He represented the desire for Bitcoin to remain digital cash, not turn into digital gold. Lots of people agreed with this vision, not just corporations.
FRANCIS ⚜️ BULLBITCOIN.COM@francispouliot_

So, you're listening to Roger Ver and, as a anti-establishment skeptic, you think his "bitcoin is hijacked" spiel makes a lot of sense? You've heard that Bitcoin was "co-opted" by Epstein, powerful corporate elites, the deep state or the US government? Listen to this.

I was there during the blocksize wars. What really happened is that Roger had a business using Bitcoin and depended on cheap on-chain transactions. He was super passionate and wanted businesses to flourish using bitcoin, but when fees spiked his business suffered. In his view adoption by businesses (and in specific his own) was vital for Bitcoin’s success. He couldn’t believe people would choose a path where his business would have to stop using Bitcoin. He simply wanted to use Bitcoin as digital cash. In his passion he was willing to compromise on decentralization, go for the quick fix, a blocksize increase. What he didn’t understand was that his business (and the handful at the time) in the grand scheme of things didn’t matter, but how could he, he put tons of effort into it. Next to that, Lightning, as a scaling solution, was mostly theory. He teamed up with the ‘corporate bitcoiners’ at the time to push for big blocks. We (the UASF proponents) didn’t want to compromise on decentralization. We understood that a short-term solution (a blocksize increase) to save a few companies was not worth it. It was better to first try long-term solutions, as Bitcoin needed to be used for centuries, even if that meant (unfortunately) a few companies would have to go out of business. The analogy I used at the time was internet’s scaling solution. In the early days of the internet there was a similar problem. There was too much traffic, and routers often were bottlenecks. The quick (and expensive) fix, was to replace routers with more capacity (blocksize increase equivalent). But instead, through scientific research, we got smart algorithms (deployed via firmware updates) that allowed existing routers (think of nodes) to have much better efficiency. This was a much cheaper and better solution. Bitcoin SegWit came forth out of scientific research. Today, Bitcoin can be used as digital cash through Lighting. We got instant transactions, better than Roger’s zero conf transaction method at the time.

Bittylicious@Bittylicious_

@tuftythecat @Arthur_van_Pelt @Bit_Faced I honestly can't believe any of these Bitcoin forks still even exist. Having even just a tiny bit of computer science knowledge on scaling, plus the practical implementation of Lightning, has shown these forks to be totally pointless.
