This is a great read and gets to the core of what Michael Alford said last fall was just a bunch of malarkey. Teams like Mercer should be in the field over Kentucky or NC State. If we could have baseball guys running the committee, things would look a little different this afternoon for a few teams .

@64Analytics 1 of the worst committees ever & it’s bad for NCAAB (in a season w/o a ton of decisions). They devalued conference tournaments, rewarded gaming RPI, (the worst metric) ignored Q1 wins in light of a few bad losses & picked a, spiraling, meh P4 team over a good 44-win team. Awful.

The amount of illogical arguments from the selection chair was astounding. - SOS matters, unless you’re Southern Miss where you didn’t get rewarded - Out of state travel matters unless your teams like Florida who never left the state - Weekends in March are determining factors for teams on the bubble, but weekends in May have little impact for hosting - Mercer didn’t play enough hard teams: except for OSU, Georgia Tech, and Troy

@ShortLawyer Yes. If guilty of anything other than losing a few games they shouldn’t have (it’s baseball) they’ve also not gamed RPI. And that’s OK. They may have decided they aren’t going to do that bc it’s 🤡. Having more Q1 wins than a host (with a similar resume) has Q1 AND Q2 is wild.

It’s clear Arkansas should not schedule 4 game series with low RPI teams moving forward. West Virginia canceled 5 games this season - all quad 4. Not playing them kept their SOS in the 50s so despite 10 fewer wins (and 18 fewer games) against quad 1 than Arkansas, they host.

So basically the Hogs could have not even gone to SECT, or gone 2&Q with backups, kept Aloy and Dietz healthy and been the same 2 seed? Sweet. That tourney is dumber than a bag of hammers.

If we don't host, I really don't think it's us being "screwed" I think we have a good argument for hosting, but I also see a good argument for why we don't.

@KBoBaseballGuru I think it happened one year that we had to go out to Az St and we got Costelloed.

DVH getting a national stage to lobby for his team to be a national seed and host a regional. It is weird, but they have hosted a regional 11 times under DVH going back to 2004, I cannot remember them being a double digit seed in the tourney. They have been a top 8 seed just about every time. I know someone out there will correct me.

@Collin1 Things that have to happen: Dietz and Gack have to be nails. Two of the group of Ryder, TJ, Niu, Stewart, Nolan need to get white hot.

I haven’t taken Arkansas baseball as a serious national contender because of A) Whole roster shakeup 6 weeks ago B) Last year was a generational team C) We’re Arkansas, we can’t have nice things If the sticks beat Georgia tomorrow, these Pigs can run to the Championship round

I want you to really think about it for a minute and try and find a Razorback hitter who has had a better two-year run than Camden Kozeal 2025-26. You can argue for a few guys having better individual seasons, but not many (if any) have better two-year stretches. All-time Hog!
