Horrified that almost 6 years after Marnie’s death, @UHD_NHS maternity has been rated ‘requires improvement’ (previously ‘inadequate’). How many more women & babies must die before the government acts? We need a public inquiry & accountability. Families deserve justice.

Until the government orders a full public investigation into UK maternity services, meaningful change will remain out of reach. Accountability is never optional - especially where there has been dishonesty and apparent cover-ups. No family should endure this heartbreak.

How can NHS Resolution deliver urgent learning and meaningful improvements in maternity patient safety if the approach taken with families is to challenge or dismiss their lived experiences and the causes of harm?
Catherine Roy@catherineroyuk

"NHS Resolution must play a more active role in shaping the culture of legal practice. Its incentive schemes should reward early admission of liability where the threshold is met, and prioritise evidence of learning and improvement" 5/

100% agree. A bereaved parent told me the actions of NHS legal teams, directed by @NHSResolution added to their trauma—second only to losing their child. It’s difficult to comprehend how an NHS organisation can be permitted to inflict such further harm. @wesstreeting
Catherine Roy@catherineroyuk

If we look at the Post Office scandal, a probe into NHS legal teams & lawyers acting on behalf of the NHS might be something that needs doing. A statutory public inquiry would be able to do that. @wesstreeting

Trusts can already admit liability at the first opportunity. What's missing is the accountability. Without it, there is no learning. 7/

❗❗❗ Incredible news - Labour has just released over 16 MILLION pounds to support children with SEND in Nottinghamshire - the biggest single funding allocation to deliver more places for children with SEND on record 👏 I've written Nottinghamshire County Council to ask how they'll be using that money to benefit children right here in Sherwood Forest - updates to follow.

This. Absolutely this. “There is no denying that clinical negligence claims represent a significant outlay for the NHS…The financial "burden" of these claims is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is the original medical error….” 1/
Mark Havenhand@HavenhandMark

A Private Member's Bill seeking to reverse the provision in the #LawReformPersonalInjuryAct1948, enabling claimants to claim the cost of #privatehealthcare, seeks to reverse that. My thoughts on why we should resist at all costs. jmw.co.uk/blog/clinical-… #patientsafety

No breath required.

There is no route to a coroner after stillbirth. But families can still place on record that they would have sought independent investigation. Template letter here: #template-letter" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nobreathrequired.uk/resources/#tem… This doesn’t trigger an investigation. It simply records a position.

Maternity: Right to Recover Campaign
Our families would firmly oppose any compensation system that uses terms such as “no fault.” Such language is seen as a removal of responsibility, minimises avoidable harm, and undermines trust in healthcare services. It denies accountability and diminishes the lived experiences of those affected by preventable harm. We need a culture that is open and honest, but not entirely devoid of responsibility; the focus should be on fair resolution.

Abolish the GMC - it’s not fit for purpose. They have compounded maternity victims trauma - can we start listening to families please? We told prof standards the problems - they failed to discharge their duty to reflect these in its annual report to the government.
Andrea James@HealthRegLawyer

Astonishing news from DHSC today - not only will the GMC's right of appeal not be getting removed as promised, its right of appeal will be further extended. Grossly inequitable when GMC already holds such imbalanced power in the #FitnessToPractise process gov.uk/government/new…

We need a system that takes responsibility and learns lessons fast,That’s how you make maternity care safer and reduce avoidable harm. But don’t rewrite people’s lived experiences. Calling it “no fault” - that feels like another denial of accountability.

We will be urging MPs to oppose this Bill at every stage. @CMcKinnellMP and @Jeremy_Hunt, you will already be aware that fathers—and mothers who suffer psychological injury—have effectively been erased as victims, leaving them unable to seek compensation. @maternityR2R
