@RyanLMcCollough @SunBelt He’s 100% correct. The fielder must demonstrate control by voluntarily releasing the ball to make a subsequent play. The fielder was being cocky with the ball and subsequently never completed the catch.

@jefftheref3 @chadmask_msu It’s not the bag they’re going to +1…it’s 2 bases from the time of the throw…and it’s measured from the last base legally touched. 1 base on a pitched ball. If I’m going back to 1st on a throw, I’d get 3rd.

@chadmask_msu Yep. If the runners are advancing (leading off) it’s the bag they’re going to +1. If this were a throw from the OF, it would be easier for most watching to accept. It’s not a 2 base penalty. It’s an active play with a one base penalty that effectively becomes 2 bases.
