@mouldyscone @bards87428 The logic is no servicing costs and 1.5p per mile electricity cost. I drive cars until they die, never thought about depreciation with any car. All cars lose you shit loads of money. My Tesla has done 101,00 miles. I have bought 8 tyres and spent a total of £200 on maintenance.

The sheets thing is one of my pet peeves in films and shows. I know that they don't want to show nudity, but come on, with some creative camera angles and such, you could easily do it, as there are quite a few that have done so, Landman being one of the recent examples that I can think of, although Ali Larter don't seem to have a big problem with nudity.

My wife points me to one of the stupidest Hollywood tricks - namely, when a woman is supposedly just getting up in the morning, and she has a faceful of makeup. I never noticed before she started scoffing at it. Now I see it every time. I assume it's because Hollywood thinks we're idiots. Or that we're all clueless men. Surely every single woman notices this.

@SandyofCthulhu The prequels are all shit. Loads of naff CGI, cheesy mumbo jumbo dialogue, simplistic yet impenetrable plot and it doesn't even look like the Star Wars universe. All the ships are shiny and pointy for a start. Utter utter dross.

Qui Gon Jinn killed 4 humans in The Phantom Menace. He also killed a ton of battle droids, but I don't count those. He wouldn't have even had to kill Anakin's owner. Just steal his slaves and run away. Lock Watto in a closet for a while or something. Have a fun escape sequence taking Anakin off to their starship and flying away. "But that's illegal!" And fixing the pod race isn't illegal? It wouldn't have destroyed the rest of the story arc either. You can easily find other reasons for Anakin to turn to the dark side despite having his mother rescued. Perhaps while they're escaping to the starship they go through the desert and some sandpeople see them and a shot hits mom. Or in the shock of the ship's taking off mom falls down and breaks her neck and Anakin internally, subconsciously, blames Qui Gon Jinn. Looky there. I spent FIVE MINUTES thinking up alternate ideas for Anakin's mom and I came up with several ways all more sensible than the retarded idea they used. This is why we hate the Phantom Menace. Because it deserves it. It's not just Jar Jar. The retarded "Midichlorian" bit. The gross misuse of Darth Maul - so built up, yet so wasted. It's maddening. As I've said before, I went into The Phantom Menace excited and happy and expecting a renewal of the greatness of Star Wars. I fought hard against my cognitive dissonance while watching - my eyes & ears telling me it sucked, while my brain was trying to convince me it was okay. But by the end it was too objectively clearly awful. And the fact that the Disney movies were EVEN WORSE doesn't make the prequels any better.

Here’s the sad truth. British food was ranked one of the great world cuisines in the 1800s. Actual snooty French chefs said British food was the best. It was destroyed by WW1, when it was made patriotic to eat crappy. Between the wars it really didn’t recover much, but then the rationing & privations of WW2 pretty much did it in. It has slowly improved since the 60s but it still has a long way to go. They went from Beef Wellington to mushy peas. I’ve spent plenty of time in Britain and yeah you can find some decent food, but it’s no wonder they’re hooked on Indo-Pak cuisine.

Its an interesting place. People who come here either seem to love it or dislike it muchly. I guess like anything else, its what you make of it. The education is good down here (follows the UK curriculum) and the one thing that children have here is freedom :-) I am sure there will be other opportunities in the future though

Bit of a funny old day down here in the #Falklands. This morning there was an almighty flash and a bang and the towns electricity supply suddenly stopped (possible lightning strike somewhere) accompanied by a truly awesome hail storm. Electricity restored fairly quickly (with a few drops during the day) and this evening some far more gentle flashing and banging. I guess we may have had our three nice days at some stage as this week has been mainly about howling gales- and tonight has a distinctly wintery look and feel about it.

I cannot say this strongly enough: if there is a clear, government-level warning not to visit a regime or war zone, you *DO NOT GO ON HOLIDAY THERE*. It’s all very well turning around and crying about how unfair it is the UK won’t pay millions for your ransom money or agree to negotiate with extremists, but it is 100% your responsibility as an adult not to go for a fun little trip with a death cult. It is genuinely astonishing to me how little I pay for 900Mbps internet that is 100% reliable and always delivers at least 800Mbps. Thank you @CityFibre (and my council for permitting it, all those who operate on your fibres, and the private equity people subsidising my internet)
