I will never get used to this kind of obscenity being used in an official statement by the White House Communication Director. The White House no longer aspires to lead from a higher moral vantage point, it seeks to fight in the mud with the pigs.

Mike Pompeo has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about. He should shut his stupid mouth and leave the real work to the professionals. He’s not read into anything that’s happening, so how would he know.

It’s worth noting that when Jan. 6 happened, the pro-Trump right used dozens of conspiracy theories to try and offload blame from themselves—e.g., claiming it was “antifa,” “feds.” Now, they seem keen to just admit they did it—all of it—and it was good.

The DOJ's attorney stood in federal court and told the judge there was "no national database being created" from the voter registration records his office was demanding from every state in the country. Judge Walker put that quote in a footnote. Then noted that an executive order directing DHS to compile a "State Citizenship List" from voter registration data was issued almost immediately after those reassurances were given at the hearing. That footnote is doing serious work. The DOJ is now 0-8 out of 31 lawsuits filed to obtain state voter rolls. Four of the eight judges who ruled against them were Trump appointees. The legal theory at issue - that the Civil Rights Act of 1960, passed specifically to fight racial discrimination in Jim Crow voting booths, gives the federal government the right to conduct line-by-line federal audits of every state's voter rolls - has not found a single judge willing to accept it, including the four Trump put on the bench. Thirty-one lawsuits. Zero wins. The record and the footnote are the whole story.

The DOJ has no right to demand private voter data from Maine and Wisconsin, two federal judges ruled this week. The department is now 0 for 8 in its legal battle to obtain state voter rolls to bolster Trump’s lies about widespread illegal voting. bit.ly/3PCfuwT

"Sometimes over the objections of the CIA." Read that clause one more time. The CIA objected to releasing this material. She released it anyway, then told the public it said something it didn't. Two analysts wrote an honest Venezuela assessment. She fired them. Trump used the corrupted version to justify an invasion. That chain of events is documented. That is not institutional damage in the abstract - that is a war built partly on intelligence she helped distort. She wasn't sidelined for being too principled. She was sidelined because even her brand of loyalty wasn't quite enough for a president who wanted a weapon, not an adviser. The exit is tidy. The trail behind it is not.

This claim is a LIE. Congress created adjustment of status in 1960. It's not a loophole. In fact, @USCIS's OWN WEBSITE says that getting a green card from inside the United States was expressly intended by Congress! Just wait; give it 24 hours and they'll erase that history.

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

Not enough people are talking about this. A Florida airport was renamed after Donald Trump. He walked away with the trademark, the licensing rights, and a deal that lets him profit off every piece of merchandise sold there. But the story of how he got it is even worse. County staff told commissioners that rejecting the name change would put state transportation funding at risk. DeSantis has already removed state attorneys and school board members who dared to cross him. That is the reality the Democratic commissioner who cast the deciding vote was living in when she made her choice: hand Donald Trump control of a public airport or watch Florida Republicans strip funding from the very people she was elected to represent. That is absolutely insane. Florida Republicans handed Trump a money machine and called it a naming rights deal, and the people of Palm Beach County never got a say in any of it. theguardian.com/us-news/2026/m…

America at 250: Signer Series I feel behind, so let’s catch up with all the April and May Signer Birthdays! Please take the time to read them because I’m sure you’ll learn something! Let’s start with the most recent birthday: John Penn | North Carolina Patriot | Born May 17, 1741 Born in Caroline County, Virginia, John Penn received little formal schooling but studied law through apprenticeship, a common path in colonial America. Ambitious and determined, he established himself as a successful attorney before eventually settling in North Carolina. Penn quickly aligned himself with the Patriot cause and became an active supporter of colonial resistance. In 1775, he was chosen to represent North Carolina in the Continental Congress, where he supported the movement toward independence. Throughout the Revolution, Penn remained involved in both national and state affairs, helping manage wartime challenges while supporting the new government.

With Trump claiming the old plans for the Arlington Memorial Bridge allow for his 250 ft arch, it's worth a look back at the history. The original plan called for 2 columns that would have framed the Lincoln Memorial, not blocked it. See my story in @TheFP thefp.com/p/this-week-in…
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Breaking news: The Trump administration does not plan to seek approval from Congress for President Trump’s planned 250-foot arch, arguing that they do not need it because lawmakers a century ago authorized a somewhat similar project that was never built. wapo.st/4dD92xG

One of the hallmarks of our series, The Pursuit of History for America’s 250th, is the outstanding presenters and the interaction and discussion that occurs with our small group. Here, a follow up question to Dr. Jane Calvert, the Founding Director and Chief Editor of the John Dickinson Writings Project during The Pursuit of History: The Road to Independence going on now in Philadelphia (and sold out months ago).

Help me plan a trip to Philly! This year most of my travel will be focused on locations and sites that lean into the 250th, with some side quests in between. I’ve been to Philly many times and have created videos of the Museum of the American Revolution, Independence Hall, Carpenters Hall, and Eastern State Penitentiary. To maximize my next visit, I would love to know what you would like to see in terms of content: photos and videos. Tell me all the things!

If we could time-travel to 1775, we would find a tense city ready to boil over from the pressures of military presence, economic struggle, and political strife. One in five people in Boston was a British soldier.
