Oliver Wolcott is said to have taken the lead statue of King George III from NYC and, with help from his family, melted it into 42,088 bullets, which were used at Saratoga Because Wolcott had served in the French and Indian War, he was given command of Connecticut militia in the War for Independence. He served in the New York Campaign and Saratoga. He signed the Declaration of Independence in October 1776. He ended up becoming governor of Connecticut and died in 1797.
