China's policy towards religious organisations is not a matter of persecution but as a matter of national sovereignty and protection against foreign interference. In China, churches must adhere to strict Socialist Core Values of the state. This means that God must speak Chinese; it must be a God that approves of socialism and the collective advancement of the people. Hard work is not a "hustle" for personal gain,it is a sacred social duty to the motherland. Religion is required to teach kindness toward fellow citizens, regardless of their faith, stripping away the sectarian divisions that imperialists use to "divide and conquer." The individual must be loyal to the nation above all else. Instead of focusing solely on the narcissism of "personal salvation" or the greed of "individual prosperity," the believer is required to see wealth as a national collective and a resource to be used for the upliftment of the entire society, not the enrichment of a few. This is in direct contrast to the Nigerian model, where churches are nothing more than neo-colonial projects designed to keep the African mind in a state of perpetual subjection. These churches project Jesus as a "White European" and the devil as a "Black figure," a psychological assault that forces the believer to worship their oppressor and fear themselves. These churches weaponize "grace" to convince believers that regardless of how hard you work, your labor is meaningless without the "favor" of a distant, foreign deity. This effectively creates millions of working class population who would rather pray for miracles instead of organising a rebellion to reclaim their resources and force the state to work for them. Furthermore, these institutions have turned the spiritual landscape into a fragmented marketplace of artificial division. Every "General Overseer" acts like a corporate CEO, peddling their own "brand" of God as the only one that works. This effectively creates a state of theological balkanization, so while the masses argue over which church has the "true" interpretation of a foreign book. This internal rivalry is a gift to the imperialists; it ensures that the people are too busy competing for "heavenly ranking" to form a unified front against material exploitation. In Africa, these churches teach a predatory, hyper-capitalist worldview where "Prosperity" is a private gift from God rather than a right earned through sovereign development. The believers are subconsciously programmed to see poverty as a spiritual "curse" rather than the cold, hard reality of state failure and decades of Western-engineered debt, IMF-imposed austerity, and the systematic exploitation of African resources.

A Christian pastor has been imprisoned in China since October. He committed no crime. He was jailed for worshiping God. Trump is right to raise his case with Xi. The contrast couldn't be starker: one nation guarantees the freedom to worship, the other jails you for it.

I have been very fortunate to live in a village, slept on the floor of a mud hut in Luzuphu, Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, and attended 4 years of primary schooling in a mud school built by my grandfather. I enjoyed my life there. I have been blessed to attend a Xhosa school in Soweto, where I was born. I was educated by the 1976 riots. I attended Crown Reef Mine School and lived in the mine compound , Crown Mines, Johannesburg. I have lived in the Catholic boarding School, for 5 years in the village of Gxulu, Libode, Eastern Cape. I have lived in the suburbs of Mthatha, Transkei and attended St John's College Mthatha. I have live in the suburbs of Johannesburg for 38 years. I have a broad experience of the life of a black South African. I do not only thumbsuck. I have never considered myself poor on any day of my life, I have never aspired to poverty nor embraced it nor wished poverty on any human being. I worry when people present monopolised experiences of black life here in RSA. Nathi kudala silapha.

iranian officials lecturing the pope about respecting jesus is peak hypocrisy. your regime executes christians jails converts and funds terrorists who slaughter them yet today jesus is suddenly your prophet of peace and brotherhood. this is not defense of faith. its cynical propaganda from a brutal theocracy that hates christianity but loves weaponizing it.

There is a scene from the movie The Dark Knight that captures something essential about the nature of strategy. The Joker has planted two bombs on two ferries - one carrying civilians, one carrying prisoners. Each ferry has the detonator to the other's bomb. The Joker announces that by midnight, if neither ferry has blown up the other, he will blow up both. The clock ticks and panic spreads. Civilians scream at each other, prisoners pace their cages. But then, something unexpected happens. On the prisoner ferry, a massive convict stands up, takes the detonator from the guard, and throws it out the window. He understands that the Joker's power comes not from the bombs but from the panic. Without the panic, the Joker is just a man with a countdown and no leverage. That is the mark of an intelligent man. He never lets urgency from others override the patience his strategy requires. People mistake urgency for importance. Something can be urgent without being important. Something can be important without being urgent. An intelligent man know the difference and does not rush. He slows down, asks questions, checks his assumptions... he knows that most decisions do not need to be made right now and that the ones that do are, more often than not, traps. There was this story I was told about a general who was outnumbered five to one. His advisors urged him to attack immediately, before the enemy's reinforcements arrived. "We must act now!" they cried. "Urgency is our only advantage!" The general said nothing. He waited. He watched the enemy's movements. He studied the terrain. His advisors grew frustrated, he didn't care. He let them call him cowardly, question his leadership... he didn't mind. And then, on the seventh day, he saw what they had missed. The enemy had positioned their supply lines poorly. A single strike would cut them off. He attacked and boom, the enemy surrendered within hours. Call the General slow but he was patient. And his patience won the war. The advisors congratulated him. "You were brilliant, sir". The general smiled. "I was not brilliant," he said. "I was just not rushed." An intelligent man never lets urgency from others override the patience his strategy requires because he knows that speed without direction is chaos. And chaos serves everyone except the man trying to build something that lasts.

There's a physicist at Stanford named Safi Bahcall who modeled this exact principle and the math is wild. He calls it "phase transitions in human networks." When you're stationary, your probability of a lucky event is limited to your existing surface area: the people you already know, the places you already go, the ideas you've already been exposed to. Your opportunity window is fixed. When you move, your collision rate with new nodes in a network increases nonlinearly. Double your movement (new conversations, new cities, new projects) and your probability of a serendipitous encounter doesn't double. It roughly quadruples. Because each new node connects you to their entire network, not just to them. Richard Wiseman ran a 10-year study at the University of Hertfordshire tracking self-described "lucky" and "unlucky" people. The single biggest differentiator wasn't IQ, education, or family money. Lucky people scored significantly higher on one trait: openness to experience. They talked to strangers more, varied their routines more, and said yes to invitations at nearly twice the rate. The "unlucky" group followed the same routes, ate at the same restaurants, and talked to the same 5 people. Their networks were closed loops. No new inputs, no new collisions. Luck isn't random. Luck is surface area. And surface area is a function of movement. The lobster emoji is doing more work than most people realize. Lobsters grow by shedding their shell when it gets too tight. The growth requires a period of total vulnerability. No protection, no armor, soft body exposed to the ocean. That's the cost of movement nobody posts about. You have to be uncomfortable first. The new shell only hardens after you've already moved.

The current situation in the Middle East is extremely dangerous. Today, in my phone call with the President of Iran, @DrPezeshkian, I urged for de-escalation and restraint, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the need for all parties to fully respect international law. The loss of innocent lives, including in the Minab school, is deeply regrettable. To de-escalate the situation, I urged Iran to stop the unacceptable attacks on countries in the region and to engage positively on the diplomatic track, notably with the UN to ensure the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. There must be space for diplomacy. The EU stands ready to contribute to all diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and for a lasting solution to end the hostilities, while addressing the broader security concerns posed by Iran.

I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran. This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets. Regular working class people with dreams. You're sick to want war. Tehran is a city of nearly 10,000,000 people. Imagine nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, London, or beyond, bombed with nuclear weapons. I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late. Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested “No Kings” in the United States. The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It's dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.

Tucker Carlson asked Joe Kent why the Thomas Crooks surveillance tapes haven’t been released. Kent’s answer blew him away. He explained the government deliberately withholds information to create noise with conspiracy theories, so the “actual question never gets answered.” TUCKER: “The current president was the subject of a near-successful assassination attempt.” “And we’re just not going to look into very obviously or divulge information that everyone knows they have.” “For example, the surveillance tape from the shooting range at which Thomas Crooks trained, because it would answer the question, was he training with somebody?” “And if so, who? They have that footage, and they won’t release it. What could possibly be the explanation for that?” KENT: “I know what the result is. The result is people come to their own conclusions. And this is where crazy conspiracy theories come from.” “And then those conspiracy theories usually are easy to ‘debunk’ or make the people saying them sound crazy. So then the actual question never gets answered.” [Tucker laughs in awe] TUCKER: “Sorry. Can you say that for people who haven’t lived in Washington?” “I try to explain this to people all the time because this has been ongoing since at least the Kennedy assassination.” “But this is a very serious and recurring thing. It’s a tactic. And you just explained it better than anyone I’ve ever heard. Can you just do that again?” KENT: “So basically, you give no information whatsoever on something that’s obvious, that there should be information.” “You outlined there’s potentially footage of Crooks at the shooting range. Again, police, 101, go get the tapes. Let’s figure it out.” “If you don’t want to address that question, then you just go silent. You say, ‘you can’t ask that question,’ which then creates people who come out of kind of nowhere, and they start drawing their own conclusions.” “Knowing the way the internet works, half of them, if not more, are probably going to be so far off in left field... that then you can just be like, Oh, these people asking these questions about that tape at the video range. Crazy conspiracy theorists.’” “And so then you’ve just diverted all attention away from the thing that you’re trying to conceal. And now everyone’s focused on the crazies.” TUCKER: “Man.” KENT: “And then the second someone asks a legitimate question, they’re ‘crazy.’”

The five-second epistemology of TACO. Wanting out requires someone on the other side to let you out. The empire killed that person on Laylat al-Qadr. Larijani was the off-ramp. Larijani is a martyr. The new supreme leader’s first words were not the right time for peace. Defeated. Compensation. Two intermediary proposals rejected. The eight-year war general advising. The IRGC just declared a new phase — American facilities until completely destroyed. The dead man’s account posting I do not see death except as happiness. The civilization on the other side of the TACO doesn’t TACO. The civilization on the other side is in Karbala. Karbala doesn’t negotiate. Karbala endures. The founding theology is Hussein choosing death over submission. The empire can’t TACO its way out of fourteen centuries. Trump can’t TACO. Not because he doesn’t want to. The political pressure is real. Oil at $109. Diesel at $5. $200 billion budget request. The base paying for the evangelical Disney World’s war. Trump is the most movable by external pressures. The kitchen agrees Trump wants out. But the most movable leader in the war is pressured by the thing that doesn’t move the other leader in the war. Trump is movable by oil prices. Iran is not movable by oil prices. Iran is movable by theology and the theology says endure. Trump always chickens out. Trump chickened out on Iran in 2019 — planes in the air, called them back. Trump chickened out on North Korea — fire and fury became love letters. The pattern is real. But the pattern requires the other side to accept the chicken. Kim accepted it because Kim wanted a photo op. Iran in 2019 accepted it because Khamenei was alive and strategic patience was operational. Khamenei is dead. Strategic patience died with him. The new leadership doesn’t want a photo op. The new leadership wants defeated and compensation. The new leadership just declared American energy facilities fair game. Trump can chicken out all he wants. The chicken needs somewhere to land. There’s no runway. The runway was killed on the holiest night. The crisis of lost time is right. Every day the rigs sit idle the decline curves run. Every day the Strait stays closed the system erodes. Every day without a TACO the damage compounds. The TACO requires Iran and Iran is in Karbala and Karbala’s timeline is fourteen centuries not fourteen days. Day twenty. Trump wants out. Iran said no. The off-ramp is dead. Karbala doesn’t TACO. The Strait is closed. The rigs are idle. The decline curves are running. The most movable leader meeting the most immovable civilization. Some TACO. Some empire.
Rory Johnston@Rory_Johnston

I still think Trump will TACO—because he *has* to TACO. Oil loss it too big, too politically untenable. While the damage is already extensive and recovery will already be a months-long ordeal, it can get so, so much worse and this is fundamentally a crisis of lost time. People will push back and say it isn't up to Trump anymore. But while there are two other major parties in this war, Trump remains the 1) most important, and 2) most movable by external pressures (like, say, oil prices), so it's gotta be him.
