@KipKnippel Nothing slows a search down faster than three different definitions of ‘the right candidate.

We've seen it happen more times than we'd like. A search kicks off. Everyone's excited. Then, three finalists in — the leadership team realizes they each had a completely different executive in mind. One wants a visionary. One wants an operator. One wants someone who's "hungry and scrappy." The search stalls. Candidates lose interest. Time is lost. Stakeholder misalignment is one of the biggest, and most preventable, reasons executive searches fail. At KIP Search, alignment isn't step five. It's step one. 🤝

In a new survey released Thursday, a nonprofit AI research center found that half of American adults used AI in the past week, either for personal or work use, with 20% of full-time workers saying that AI has taken over parts of their job. nbcnews.com/tech/rcna267238

When a recruiter or hiring manager says you’re overqualified, what they’re really saying is: We don’t trust that this is where you actually want to be. In the back of their mind, they're thinking you're a flight risk because: • You'll get bored and quit • You'll use the role as a bridge job • You're going to be too expensive • You're not "hands on" enough • You'll overstep your bounds The last thing the hiring team wants to do is invest all this time into recruiting you just to reject an offer or quit early for these reasons. Like it or not, it's a valid pattern that every hiring manager on here has seen before. substack.com/home/post/p-19…

People in the US are feeling more stuck at work lately Even though unemployment isn’t high Many workers feel like they can’t move or find better roles right now They are calling it the Great Detachment Where people are physically at work but mentally checked out #mentalhealth

I'm increasingly convinced that burnout doesn't come from working long hours or weekends. The people I know who burned out were the ones who were really bored with their work, not the ones who worked the most hours. Burnout comes from working on things that don't energize you.

Major life hack: when you're feeling stuck...move. Take action. Get data. Learn. You're imagination inflates problems. Inaction breeds anxiety. Action dissolves it. Most of our fears are unfounded. And the only way to find out? Run right at them.

Ruling out a candidate b/c they have 5 years of experience when you want 6 is a crazy approach to recruiting. This isn't recruiting talent, it's being an order-taker. The best candidates WILL NOT check every box. You need to evaluate on ability, skills, aptitude, ability to learn, strategic thinking vs. years of experience.

🔴 Kip Knippel - Headhunter Recruiter 🔴
Here's an uncomfortable question: If your top executive walked out tomorrow... Do you have a plan? Most companies don't. And that's not a criticism. It's just the reality of how busy organizations operate. But succession planning isn't about being pessimistic. It's about being resilient. At KIP Search, we help organizations think ahead, so that when change happens (and it always does), you're ready. Don't wait for the gap to start the conversation. 💼

@randomrecruiter The ‘eat what you kill’ model isn’t for everyone, but it’s brutally transparent

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got came early in my career: stay an individual contributor. In recruiting, your production is a number on a scoreboard. You can literally point to it and say "that's what I'm worth." For better or worse, you eat what you kill. The second you move into management, that disappears. Doesn't matter how good you are. If you inherit a bad team or your people underperform, that's your problem now. Your ceiling becomes someone else's floor. I got promoted into management early and walked away from it, but went back to being an IC after about a month because I hated it. For years I wondered if I made a mistake because my goal at the time was to climb into the executive level later in my career. Turns out it was the best career decision I ever made. Today I don't have much of a desire to become an executive anymore. I just want to worry about myself, keep control of my calendar, and exit the rat race by 40-45. Being an IC in my industry also opened up a ton of doors. When I was laid off last year, I had a handful of hard job offers in less than 2 weeks. Meanwhile, virtually every company in my industry (or every industry for that matter) continues to cut back on management layers. Most of the managers I know that lost their job last year are still looking for work 4 months into 2026. Glad I listened to that advice.

@SahilBloom This is the kind of ‘obvious in hindsight’ advice that actually changes habits.

Random life hack I've found helpful: Whenever I struggle to get consistent on a new habit, I just try to physically place the new thing in front of an existing habit. When I wanted to start reading more in the morning, I put my kindle on top of my computer keyboard so I had to see it before I started working. When I wanted to start stretching more, I put the stretching mat on top of my treadmill so I had to take it off before a run. When I wanted to remember to take my fiber with breakfast, I put it in front of the coffee machine. When you make a plan for your future self to do something, you fail to account for the fact that your future self is going to try to preserve the comfort of the status quo. Forcing yourself to physically confront the thing you said you'd do is a good way to get yourself to do it. I know this has been talked about before, but I'm constantly blown away by the upside created through tiny behavioral hacks.
