@Richardlegault8 @ChaosTV Nah. If you are that susceptible (I think that’s the word you were looking for) or scared, eat in the car or stay home. Expecting everyone else, especially a 3yo, to wear a mask is ludacris - particularly in a restaurant. Good on this CFA manager for standing up for common sense.

@JoshClaibourn I (and I believe most reasonable Southern Baptists) don’t see the former as rising to the same level of error as the later. Many churches innocently use titles in ways that are confusing at best, wrong at worst but they aren’t engaging in egalitarian faith and practice.

My Suggestion: Amend Article 3. Section 1 of the SBC Constitution inserting the following after #5 : “6. Does not affirm, appoint, or employ a woman as a pastor of any kind, whether as a matter of title (name) or as a matter of authority and responsibility (function).” 1/2

@SBCMemes @Pastor_Eaton @JesusMetal1689 That’s the point of the new proposal, to help the committee parse varying situations in a nuanced way that balances congregational autonomy and cooperative accountability and allows them to act with greater clarity and consistency. 4/end

@SBCMemes @Pastor_Eaton @JesusMetal1689 is met or not. Most reasonable Southern Baptists don’t view issues of wrong/confusing nomenclature as being on the same level as churches practicing outright, functional egalitarianism. 3/

Is the Credentials Committee so bad that they have to be spoon fed explicit instructions to disfellowship churches in clear violation of the BF&M 2000? And if the answer is yes, they should be vacated and replaced.

@SBCMemes Most of the “thousands of female pastors” are nomenclature/labeling issues (i.e. childrens pastor) which is altogether different from a church outright ordaining & installing a woman to the office of elder/overseer. 2/2

@bartbarber Your method is not effective. Being nice has resulted in thousands of females calling themselves pastors in the SBC.

What's happening right now with the question of pastoral qualifications in the SBC is, in my opinion, very healthy. The Law Amendment came out and people falsely conflated mechanism with objective—if you don't like this WAY of doing it, then I accuse you of not wanting to do it.

@realdrewpage @bartbarber Nothing to do with the person. The new proposal being put forth is much more nuanced and instructive to the committee so they CAN do their work with consistency and clarity, balancing church autonomy with cooperative accountability.

So because a different person is doing it that is acceptable to the guild, it is now a good idea. Come on now! Either it was the right thing to do, or it wasn’t. The real fix would be for the credentials committee to get off their rears and do their job. That is what you all said was going to happen because it was already in the Baptist faith in message. But they are inept. And they are subversive. That’s the truth.

@jrwhitehead @WilliamWolfe 5/ A broad, surface-level approach risks misrepresentation and overcorrection—throwing out a lot of babies with the bathwater instead of making careful, accurate distinctions.

@jrwhitehead @WilliamWolfe 4/5 Because our churches lack consistency and congruency, the credentials committee’s inquiry process should be nuanced—seeking to understand each church’s actual beliefs and practices.

The problem here is the argument that *bylaws* cannot amend or limit the Constitutional definition of friendly cooperation. Probably the courts won’t assist an aggrieved church. But some churches do want to argue they’re in friendly cooperation while having female pastors.
The Baptist Review@BaptistReview

.@JaredCornutt makes a new recommendation on the issue of women pastors. He says we need an amendment, but this time we need to amend bylaw 8: thebaptistreview.com/editorial/end-…

@WilliamWolfe @theadamsbennett It’s very different. Rather than just restating language from another document, it provides clear, detailed instruction to the credentials committee as to how inquiries on the matter should be handled w/ nuance that balances local church autonomy and cooperative accountability.

@theadamsbennett It's not any different. The only difference is that Jared and his friends on the Platform and at the Baptist Review spent an entire year spreading false attacks against the Law Amendment to undercut it.

Jared Cornutt claims that his proposed amendment to the SBC Bylaws to address the women pastors issue "would require only a 50% vote at one annual meeting, whereas amending the constitution takes two years and a two thirds supermajority." This is factually incorrect and a major mistake that undermines his entire proposal. According to Bylaw 36, amending the SBC Bylaws requires a 2/3 majority vote. Unlike a constitutional amendment, it only requires one year/one vote. Still, his proposal requires an initial threshold that is identical to the Law Amendment.

I have been an advocate that amending Bylaw 8 is the best way to settle the issue on women pastors. It’s also a quicker and easier process. #SBC26 Read more below:
