So often we hear, “I didn’t know what to say” when we encounter hate, racism, & bias. I love that you’ve given your school community language to interrupt & speak up in these moments. 🙌🏾@SUABULLDOGS #OneDegreeShift #SpeakUp

@mandyrobek @ohioctm Thank you for joining! Excited to hear about your explorations.
English

@mandyrobek Thanks for sharing! See Think Wonder is a great routine for eliciting thinking.
English

@math_MrsB @katricequitter I am too, as we think around active engagement in remote and hybrid math communitites.
English

A4: I am excited to think more about @katricequitter 's idea of providing voice and choice during reflection and how they make their thinking visible! #octmchat
English

@katricequitter Thank you for sharing! So many good options for students to consider. When they aren't limited by what to add to the conversation, do you see more engagement and participation?
English

@BraveMathTalk Good question—possibly a strategy that they used, options for which problem/task they share, something that challenged their brain, something that was easy for them, something that they’d like to compare answers and/or strategies with a partner-(compare/contrast)
English

A1: I like creating pairs or tris of Ss to process and share. And remote or in-person, providing options for what can be shared gives them some voice & choice. #octmchat

@josiestew What do you predict Ss might headline about your upcoming unit??
English

@math_MrsB @malmess13 @BerkeleyEverett Yes! Think about the level of engagement in pursuing and exploring their questions related to the concept!
English

@malmess13 @BerkeleyEverett #octmchat This thinking routine can be so powerful in revealing what students already understand about a concept and for creating questions to explore!

Here is Q2 for #octmchat.
Let's look closer at the Claim-Support-Question thinking routine from the book Making Thinking Visible.

@math_MrsB So much power in using concrete tools and making the transfer to representation.
English

A1 Teachers in hybrid have students showing their thinking directly with an across the table buddy. In primary grades I've seen tools out w white boards. They model & solve with a tool & have been challenged to represent it on a white board. Kids hold up boards & share. #octmchat
English

@josiestew You are also skillful in how you use breakout rooms for Ss to share their thinking verbally, via chat, and presenting screens! #octmchat
English

A1: pre-COVID, I loved using gallery walks w Ss. Sometimes during a wkshp halftime, or before reflection. Ss walk around to view each other's thinking (some put their arms behind their backs like a true gallery) and come back together to discuss notices and next steps #octmchat
