Want to learn chip design and tape out a real chip at the end? @tinytapeout is running an online workshop next week!

@waaaaaaaaa17698 For the actual hand layout, I've been working through these two textbooks. Psychogenic Technologies on YT has some good videos about the more analog side of layout (youtube.com/watch?v=Eu_crb…)
For higher level RTL not sure I have a good source, just picking things up here and there

@BreakingTaps Any sources you’d recommend for someone wanting to do something similar ie chip design?
English

@jwt0625 Just wait until it discovers how to purchase Elsevier articles 💀

@yacineMTB SNNs are on my shortlist for ASIC projects 😅
Surprisingly tricky, it's super memory-constrained (synapse connectivity at moderate fanout eats gobs of memory, especially for 3factor STDP) so it's 90% just keeping buffers full since the actual computation is tiny.

Seems like out ghosty is going to make it asic now
This has been my signature doodle since university because its easy to make and only one i can draw.

@DanielSMatthews Was mostly hoping to program it myself at one of the intermediate/lower layers (rather than using off the shelf AI/ML stuff). But yeah, assuming that layer is usable could still be a gamble 🫤
English

@BreakingTaps Are you confident that you can get the software you need running on it without a lot of pain? That is the only gotcha I can think of.
English

@EricVallieres84 Just don't use them for high-vacuum systems! (the little rolled "burrs" can trap air and cause virtual leaks that will drive high vac people crazy)

Explained thread forming to someone who only seen cut taps today. We now have another formed thread truther on our side
Pros of formed threads:
No Chips
Significantly stronger threads - essentially cold forged
Huge tool life boost compared to cut taps
Great thread surface finish
Can run higher SFM

@deeempak Black/white image from photoshop, and then a python script to convert to GDS.
Script is from wafer.space (github.com/wafer-space/gf…), just loads up klayout and uses that to pixelize and merge into a metal layer

@Ben_Reinhardt Printed articles hit different. Nothing beats sitting at a table with journal paper, notepad and a coffee. Color e-ink readers are surprisingly decent for this too, can annotate etc
I do try to reserve it for really interesting or dense papers that need full attention.

@Daniel00Higgins @MichaelAlleged @recliner_pilott What? I can't speak to the bracket design itself, but it's a perfectly fine 5 axis part, toolpaths and fixturing. Two op prismatic is like the bread and butter of 5ax.
English

@MichaelAlleged @recliner_pilott Terrible design, terrible use of 5axis, terrible programming, terrible fixturing. Embarrassing tbh.
English

can some engineer at astranis please prevent their company from being embarrassing
Astranis Space Technologies@Astranis
The key to precision in manufacturing small, complex parts is the Matsuura MX-330. With a full 5-axis, setups are condensed for better accuracy, staying rigid and precise. This is American manufacturing. 🇺🇲
