Innovation across Texas continues to expand through partnerships between research institutions and private industry. When universities and companies collaborate on long-term technological advancement, they do so in environments where legal frameworks are dependable and intellectual property protections are respected. That predictability encourages research, development, and sustained growth. The collaboration between Texas Tech and Nvidia reflects how dependable legal frameworks support long-term innovation: everythinglubbock.com/news/texas-tec…

#OTD 7 years ago, I took my oath as a #SCOTX Justice. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve, for the hard work of attorneys who come before our Court, and for the dedication of my colleagues & our staff. I look forward to many more years of service ahead! #appellatetwitter

Always appreciate your questions when I've caught some of the Youtube recordings. Forcing lawyers to address any potential weaknesses in their arguments. Really locked into each case, if that makes sense. Not saying I'd want to be the one questioned by you, but I enjoy watching others try. 🤣

When I took the oath of office, I pledged to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and Texas. That oath is not symbolic. It requires judges to decide cases based on the law and the record before the Court, even when the issues are complex or the outcomes unpopular. The legitimacy of our judiciary depends on consistency and restraint. A strong legal system does not draw attention to itself. It earns confidence over time through steady, principled decisions grounded in the Constitution.

Texas continues to attract major investment in emerging industries, including data infrastructure and advanced technology. Projects of this scale require long-term planning, regulatory clarity, and confidence that disputes will be resolved fairly and predictably. A stable legal system plays an important role in supporting that environment.

The oath taken by every judge is clear and specific. Uphold the Constitution. Apply the law faithfully. That commitment guides every case before the Court.

Access to justice depends not only on court decisions but also on systems that function efficiently and transparently. Updating procedures, improving clarity in filings, and ensuring technology supports public access are practical steps that help the justice system serve Texans more effectively while remaining grounded in the Constitution.

Texas’ economy continues to demonstrate long-term resilience, even as national trends fluctuate. Homebuyers, entrepreneurs, and companies expanding operations all depend on stability when making significant financial decisions. That kind of confidence is built over time. It rests in part on courts that apply the law consistently and provide clear rules people can rely on. Economic projections from the Texas Real Estate Research Center reinforce that broader resilience: trerc.tamu.edu/article/texas-…

This is one of my favorite anecdotes from this job. 36 years ago, President George HW Bush received the President of Bolivia, Jaime Paz (accompanied by his young sons) at the White House, and Paz gave Bush a golden family cross. Bush wrote Paz a characteristically gracious thank-you note and said that he would give instructions to return the family heirloom when one of the Paz boys became President. As fate would have it, one of them, Rodrigo Paz, was elected President of Bolivia last year. The Bush Library promptly contacted us, and yesterday in Doral @SecRubio returned the cross to the new President Paz with a copy of the note. And the best part? President Rodrigo Paz was able to share this story with his now 86-year-old father. Kudos to all, especially the @Bush41Library. Promises made, promises kept! 🇺🇸🤝🇧🇴

Today we observe Alamo Day and remember those who stood for liberty in 1836. Their sacrifice remains an enduring part of Texas history. The resilience and determination shown in the fight for independence continue to shape our state’s identity. Remembering our history helps us better understand the institutions and freedoms that define Texas today.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Texas Independence Day—speaking to middle school students and engaging them in a simulation to show how Texas law and history affect their lives. Thanks to @theaustinbar volunteers and to @SCOTXHistSocy for developing the curriculum!

Today we recognize Texas Independence Day! Our founders signed the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. The principles of self-government and the rule of law expressed in that document continue to shape our institutions today. Tomorrow is Primary Election Day in Texas. Judicial elections may not always draw headlines, but their consequences are lasting. I’m on the ballot to continue serving on the Texas Supreme Court, and I’d be grateful for your support.

Courts serve Texans best when decisions are guided by the Constitution, the record before the Court, and established precedent. Every case requires careful analysis, disciplined reasoning, and respect for the limits of the judicial role. That approach helps ensure decisions are clear, consistent, and worthy of public trust.

Some of the most important reminders about the role of the courts don’t come from briefs or opinions. They come from conversations. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to Texans talk about how the legal system intersects with their lives, whether through a business dispute, a family matter, or a question about their rights. Those conversations underscore the weight of judicial decisions and the responsibility that comes with them. When cases come before the Texas Supreme Court, the goal is never abstract. It’s to provide clear guidance, apply the law faithfully, and resolve disputes in a way that is fair and consistent with the Constitution. That responsibility is at the center of every decision I make.
