@Jefashburn Great question. Their role IRT players is passive unless asked, but not ignorant. I’ve marshaled at all levels, perhaps the responsibilities have changed for R&A. Better you look them up (in regards to possible infractions) if you really want to know what marshals perform.

@BrianEleazer Question, if a rules guy is over there, is it his job to guide him thur the process of rules, or warn him ??

@DustinT_NBA The timing is troubling. The object ignorance the grass was already trampled. And somehow any marshal didn’t pass on a possible infraction (vs call in report). Amazing. Recreation is fantasy

For what it’s worth, I’d have no issue if a rules official went out to Bryson on hole 5 and said they determined he will be assessed a two stoke penalty. My issue with the whole thing lies in the fact that they made a judgement call later based on an inconclusive camera angle. Not one camera angle provided shows conclusively that the grass he stomped on was in his intended swing plane. Not one.

@peterjkostis @GolfChannel players to weekly golfers know rule, and act rather than opinion and emotion guides. Before Bryson arrived, searchers &marshals trampled grass. Can’t assume. If risk of breach, marshal should be in position. Bryson can inspect, get line, and timely assessed. Not recreations

Seriously? @GolfChannel ? Why should a player "graciously" accept a penalty that they honestly feel that they didn't deserve? If someone shows me a DEFINITIVE camera angle that showed his swing path was improved then there should be a penalty. But for a commentator to state that he definitely did improve his situation is , in my opinion, more about their personal opinion of Bryson than the facts. There is no down the line video that I have seen.
