I caught a bit of BBC NI’s Twelfth programme last night. A self professed sectarian organization starting the indoctrination of children with those beliefs from the age of 6 or 7? One wonders if as much effort is put into education? This place has no future only a past.

Those who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles did so to keep us safe from terrorism. They served bravely, and in incredibly challenging circumstances. But the Government wants to open them up to prosecution, and legal harassment, decades after their service.

Many grooming gang perpetrators already serve shockingly short prison sentences. Now, the Government is planning to let them out even earlier. But ministers seem to think that we should be grateful that these monsters are serving any time in prison at all.

Sad to learn of the sudden passing of US Senator Lyndsey Graham- had the pleasure of meeting him on a number of occasions- most recently, 3 years ago in Ukraine.

@SkyNews If you're reading this thinking our forces are in the wrong you simply do not understand the depravity of what these Afghanistani's got up to. They made Jeffery Epstein look like a Saint and many times they did it in front of our soldiers to demoralise them.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Americans on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This anniversary stands as an invitation not only to celebrate the nation’s remarkable journey, but also to reflect upon the responsibilities that the sons and daughters of this country bear to one another, and to the generations who will inherit the nation that is being shaped today. vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

Was honoured this week to speak at @cavanmuseum at a conference marking the centenary of the death of Major General Oliver Nugent who commanded the 36th (Ulster) Division during the First World War along with Dr Fionnuala Walsh, who spoke about Cavan women in WW1, and Nick Perry, who has written an excellent biography on Nugent. He spoke about his subject's distrust of Unionist politicians and particularly of James Craig who he despised as somebody who wanted to use the 36th as essentially a political tool. I contrasted Henry Wilson and Nugent, two men from estates 35 kilometres apart and minor Anglo-Irish gentry. Though born in Longford, Wilson was essentially an Ulster unionist and identified in himself as such. He was opposed to the establishment of the Free State even after its inception. As far back as 1914, Nugent was saying that unionists like himself in majority Catholic areas would have to make an accommodation with the aspirations of their nationalist neighbours which he did. He stayed after independence and died in 1926. The Nugent family remain involved in the family estate to this day. It was great to meet them too. There was a lovely church service in Mountnugent and afterwards at his very modest grave in the church grounds.

I visited Cloughey today on a nostalgia trip, having spent all my summers there as a youth. Union jacks, but also a “Young Militants” flag with the slogan “Tomorrow beongs to us!”. Are they aware that this is the famous Nazi song used in the movie Cabaret? youtu.be/_tUctFu46_c?is…

Jesus. Gisèle Pelicot was drugged/gang-raped for 10 years. Her husband Dominique and 50 co-accused were jailed. Sandy Row graffiti calls Gisele a salope/slut and calls for the freeing of her husband. 'N****rs' and 'P***s' also targeted. A fitting end to a long weekend of hate.
