For DC residents the White House Easter Egg Roll is a long-standing tradition dating back to 1878, however, Black people were not permitted to partake due to segregation.
In 1891, the National Zoo instituted Easter Monday, a day DC’s Black residents in their Easter finest visited the National Zoo.
They had their own Easter Egg Roll and picnics.
It was not until the 1950s that Black people were officially invited to participate in the official White House Easter Egg Roll. #DemsUnited
