In "peaceful" 1975, the murder rate in NYC was 22 per 100,000 residents, with more than 1,600 homicides recorded. In 2025, the murder rate in NYC was 3.6 per 100,000, with 305 murders recorded. Even a dumbshit like Hercules here can do that math.

NY has been criticized many times for downgrading crimes, changing their classifications, etc. All of it in an effort to make themselves look better and not make a single person safer.

You’re blaming Newsom for something that happened nationwide and because California has the largest population and the most robust social safety nets & programs like MediCAL you’re trying to convince people it was all Newsom’s greed and idea because of the big $ numbers for sticker shock Also, the bulk of the fraud coming from the prison system is also mostly explained by the lack of EDD cross-checking systems in CA that 35 other states did have. So you can totally call Newsom out for not having that cross check system in place during that time, but don’t act like this was all some conspiracy or scheme plotted by Newsom when the same thing was happening across the nation at the time.
