Good morning, Ukraine! 🇺🇦 😢Shots taken for life. This is how pilots of the 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade named after Lieutenant General Vasyl Nikiforov, who died during the full-scale Russian invasion, were commemorated in Mykolaiv. According to tradition, a piano was burned on the runway. Mykolaiv musician Volodymyr Alekseev played Jan Tiersen's composition "Somptine d'un autre été" on the piano, and pilots' callsigns and flight numbers were written on the musical instrument. Burning pianos in honor of fallen pilots is an American tradition that dates back to World War II. A British pilot who was a pianist in his pre-war life served in one of these squadrons. During a combat mission, his plane was shot down and the pilot died. Since then, in memory of the deceased, his American colleagues burned his instrument. Slava Ukraini
