@SarahHermit Ukraine will not “instantly” become a member of NATO, in the very unlikely event that the United States leaves. It would require every member to vote for their admittance and that would not come close to happening.
English

@peterbakernyt @JonLemire @shustry Worth reiterating that Ukraine is holding, if not beating, Russia on its own; there are no EU or UK troops fighting with them. Just Ukraine. If US pulls out of NATO, Ukraine would become a member instantly I imagine. Plus the US isn't exactly winning in Iran right now ha!
English

People close to Trump tell @JonLemire and @shustry that there are not active discussions to pull the US out of NATO, but added that the cool response to his requests incensed the president, who would likely need little prompting to try to withdraw. theatlantic.com/national-secur…

By a voice vote, the #Senate passed H.R. 7147 - DHS Funding for Fiscal Year 2026, as amended.
English

@kaitlancollins Is he objecting? Doesn’t really sound like it.
English

@MikeSmithGDMF @sentdefender Vance is the only one who can invoke the 25th amendment, and he would need over 1/2 of Trump’s cabinet to vote to allow it.
No one who has actually read the 25th amendment talks about it being used.
If Trump fought it, Vance would need the votes of 2/3 of Congress to take over.
English

@sentdefender Man, fuck this. Someone invoke the 25th amendment already.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump is weighing several options for dramatically escalating the Iran War should his latest push for diplomacy fail, with Pentagon officials preparing for the next phase of war by drawing up scenarios for deploying troops to seize various targets within Iran, more than half a dozen people familiar with the discussions told CNN.
Officials have developed options for capturing Kharg Island, which handles roughly 90% of Iran’s crude exports, or authorizing a bombing raid aimed at effectively wiping out all oil infrastructure on the island in the Persian Gulf. And the administration has examined the potential for taking over other strategically placed islands near Iran that might weaken the regime’s ability to threaten tankers trying to traverse the Strait of Hormuz.

@minnesorta @RadioFreeTom We made it until well into the 21st century before we had an adult population stupid enough and apathetic enough to elect an obvious criminal to be president.
English

@RadioFreeTom Once again, amazing how we survived this long on norms and weak moral guardrails without unscrupulous people taking advantage of it as they have done under Trump.

@rparloff Trump-appointed judge grants Trump's DOJ the 'presumption of regularity' that it no longer merits.

English

Judge Boulee's order, barring testimony of the FBI agent at tomorrow's Fulton Co voting records hearing, seems like a bad omen for Fulton Co. Judge appears to accord DOJ the "presumption of regularity" without using that phrase. ...

@atrupar He was joking about it.
His hand-picked boot-licking VP and Cabinet are NOT going to invoke the 25th Amendment.
Only Vance could invoke it, but he would need the concurrence of over half the Cabinet.
And that would be just the beginning.

@maximoheadroom @Osinttechnical He's talking to the markets. The price of a barrel of oil went down after his announcement:

@Osinttechnical And yet still no one knows who he’s even talking to. Maybe the voices in his head?

@sentdefender The Houthis control the coastline north of the strait, not within the strait itself. That helps some.

English

@JimJones69_ My "example" was over your head, "dude."
I'm muting you, life's too short to waste on someone who is not nearly as smart as they think they are.
English

@BruceDuck2 @JonLemire What fucking planet are you living on, dude?
He is pro-Russia. He called the invasion of Ukraine “genius”. That is the worst possible example you could use lmao.

NEW: Trump’s Greenland obsession strained the NATO alliance
Now the Strait of Hormuz could break it
Trump is livid that other nations won’t help. And NATO is bracing for revenge:
Could Trump pull U.S troops out of Europe? Or withdraw from NATO entirely? theatlantic.com/national-secur…

@OmeyDaHomey @sentdefender FTR - I still think it's a terrible idea. We can do it, but it won't even come close to being worth it.
English

@OmeyDaHomey @sentdefender Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE are all on the Persian Gulf INSIDE the Strait of Hormuz.
We have bases, airfields, and troops in all those countries, so there is no need to go through the Strait.

English

U.S. President Donald J. Trump appears to be leaning toward ordering a “major ground operation” against Iran, involving the seizure of Iran’s Kharg Island in the Northern Persian Gulf, with Washington convinced Tehran will buckle under such military pressure, an official from one of the countries mediating between the U.S. and Iran tells The Times of Israel.

English

@JimJones69_ @JonLemire Everyone knows? Trump is bat shit crazy and getting increasingly senile. You're kidding yourself if you think you know what he will do.
We have extensive forces based in Europe, including Eastern Europe. If Russia attacks a NATO country, our forces will be drawn into the fight.
English

@JonLemire It’s already dead.
Everyone knows Trump wouldn’t help if the help was needed from NATO.
So, it’s already dead.
English

@Redchief000 This has all been investigated over and over and over again. Why are you in favor of something that you apparently know nothing about?
Rhetorical question. I'm blocking you.
English

@BruceDuck2 @AnnaBower Why do you oppose this investigation again? Unless you don't want to see the results...
English

@chewning_p @AnnaBower Yes, it was the entire basis for approving the search warrant and the seizure.
A Trump-appointed judge quashed the subpoena.
English

@AnnaBower Can you explain why the agent doesn’t have to testify?? (How can the Gov. “deny the revised Touhy request?) Help us non-lawyers!
Isn’t his affidavit the entire basis for the search and seizure?
English

@sentdefender I'll say it again: Donald Trump is Vladimir Putin's Useful Idiot.

"... the Pentagon is considering diverting military aid for Ukraine to the Middle East, amidst the munitions intensive conflict with Iran."
English

According to the Washington Post, citing three people with knowledge on the matter, the Pentagon is considering diverting military aid for Ukraine to the Middle East, amidst the munitions intensive conflict with Iran. The munitions would included interceptor missiles bound for Ukraine through a NATO program where countries supplied military aid to Ukraine by buying U.S. weapons for them. No decision has been made yet on the matter. This comes less than 24 hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the U.S. for continuing to supply military aid to Ukraine despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
