Chanukah should be a time of celebration and joy. The news that the Bondi beach attack was an antisemitic terrorist attack against Jewish families at a Chanukah event is sickening. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. The United Kingdom will always stand with Australia and the Jewish community. We are actively working with the @CST_UK on the policing of Chanukah events.

Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two state solution, the UK formally recognises the State of Palestine.

Delighted to be one of the 1st council leaders to catch up with new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government @SteveReedMP We had a very positive meeting as I was in London yesterday for an event to promote Mayor @RichParkerLab's West Midlands Growth Plan.

Great responses from parent's to the @UKLabour proposal to offer places on a school based nursery roll out to parents of 2 year olds.

Labour is giving children across Birmingham the best start in life.

We also want to pay tribute to Angela Rayner. She was a trailblazer. From renters rights to standing up for people at work she delivered for ordinary working people. We worked closely with her in Birmingham and look forward to working closely with the new Secretary of State.

Shabana’s dedication, experience, and deep understanding of our communities will play a vital role in making our streets safer. Her achievement is a proud moment for Birmingham and an inspiration to all who believe in the power of hard work and commitment to public service.

Congratulations to @ShabanaMahmood on her appointment as Home Secretary. One of Birmingham’s own, born in Small Heath, she has risen to one of the most senior roles in the Cabinet.
