@Budderic

A fellow who would be slightly more stout and beardy if he had his druthers. There would also be free beer.

@RealBSP3 @frontierism We watched that movie in English class specifically because we could also follow along with the screenplay word for word. They'd say something about "fetch my longsword" & the film would zoom in on a semi auto pistol with "Longsword Cal. 9mm" on the slide. It was great.

I love that film. It was absolutely brilliant, as a concept, and it's what Shakespeare would have done, today. Modernizing the setting but using the original dialog gave a visual anchor to words that transcend centuries. He wasn't writing snooty stuff. We've just come to believe that. He was a writer for everyone, and his plays are awesome. They're plays, though. They were never intended to be read as a novel; nor were they intended to be boring to watch. The man was an entertainer.

Mostly indigenous actors from the Yucatán Peninsula were cast for Apocalypto, and the entire movie is spoken in Yucatec Maya. Mel Gibson said: "I think hearing a different language allows the audience to completely suspend their own reality and get drawn into the world of the film.”

Christopher Nolan has explained why everyone in The Odyssey has an American accent “What I wanted to do with this film was really take a modern audience and throw them into a very relatable world"

@RealBSP3 @frontierism One of the things about the 1996 Romeo & Juliet was that the director specifically modernized the setting but not the play's dialogue for the movie. They just adapted the film to make the original dialogue work & expected the audience to figure it out.

@frontierism Mel Gibson was right. That film put you there. The Odyssey doesn't have to go that way, but the dialog itself should be more epic. It's fine to make a play into something people want to see, but don't underestimate the people. That said, I wish Gibson was directing this one.

@a_man_in_red I really don't get that kind of thing. The fact that things worked out for him in the past doesn't really say anything about the current market. And we should generally want to make things easier & better for those who come after. It's not a fucking contest.

@gernotpru @KAHALA123Y Everyone should make a fuss. 1.) You likely have no legal obligation to provide your employer with interest free microloans. 2.) Your employer likely has no legal authority to withhold your already earned wages. If the employer can't manage their business, that's on them.

Your paycheck lands $900 short. You go to HR. HR: "I see the mistake, but payroll has already processed. It'll be fixed next month." Response: "My landlord doesn't bill on your payroll schedule. That's money I've already earned. I need an off-cycle payment this week—or the written policy that says the company can legally hold my wages."

@kevinbolk If you're on the lease, you get a vote. Those are the folks the complex can demand a financial obligation from. Those are the folks who get a say in stuff at the complex.

Quick hypothetical question: You’re the landlord of an apartment complex and decide to let tenants vote on issues that affect the entire building. Most apartments have one tenant. A few have couples or small families. But one apartment has a massive family, almost as many people as all the other apartments combined. They also let needy friends crash on their couch, sometimes indefinitely and without your authorization. Do you give every individual a vote (including the couch surfers)? Or do you give one vote per apartment? What’s the fair way to handle it?

@DaddyWarpig Consider the PowerShift dual dry clutch automatic transmission. You know, the thing that forced Ford to exit the small car market entirely. I'm pretty sure actual Ford engineers made that. It actively eats itself while being technically within spec. Would AI design be any worse?

They DESIGNED CARS WITH AI? And were SURPRISED THEY FAILED? You know, you could have LISTENED TO THE WARPIG and all this heartache could have been avoided. #WarpigIsRightAgain #NotReadyForDeployment Funny thing is, they're trying to train it better, which researchers have already proven isn't a solution. There is a vast conspiracy at corporations all across the planet to make me think I'm the smartest person in the world. I refuse to be taken in.
Pirat_Nation 🔴@Pirat_Nation

Ford says one of its biggest mistakes was thinking AI could replace experienced engineers. The company had to hire, promote, and bring back more than 350 engineers after realizing AI couldn’t replace years of hands-on experience. Ford’s VP of Vehicle Hardware Engineering, Charles Poon, said AI is a great tool but only as good as the information it’s trained on. Those experienced engineers are now training younger employees, improving AI, and catching problems earlier before cars go into production.

@CCoderDyne @physicsgeek I have an HP printer that I inherited but I haven't bought an actual HP cart since one time when a brand new one failed because HP borked up their own security. Nothing actually physically wrong with the cart. They just borked the authentication feature.

@laetissima918 @BlackDumpling @Aku_700 She's got a point in that while the philanderer is not great, he's still preferable to the coward. The philanderer is the sort you're going to have to steer friends & family away from, but he's still possibly useful depending on what you're doing. The coward is just useless.

@BlackDumpling @Aku_700 I've personally never met anyone who would think that a man who has a high body count deserves high fives for playing the field. I think feminists make up random things and repeat it to themselves to feel like men are privileged. It's all in their silly delulu little heads.

The male equivalent of slut is coward. Ask @Aku_700, or any other woman who advocates for such behavior how she would feel about dating a man who held a child up as human shield. Of course not.. she'd laugh in your silly face. Weird, huh?
AshleY@Aku_700

Men will sleep with as many women as possible, brag about body counts like a video game score, and get high-fives for ‘playing the field,’ but when a woman enjoys her sexuality and has the same freedom, society labels her a slut, questions her value, and acts like she’s damaged goods.

@MadScientist_42 @curdmudgeon1 @DaddyWarpig The funny thing is, the cost of the sub probably covers the carts. Maybe dude was getting a slight deal per cart, but HP was also getting a dedicated customer instead of just one-off sales. And now he's not exactly enticed to ever come back.

Again, while that is a valid take...they weren't specific there. That statement you gave me is ambiguous in what it claims- and that's deliberate. If they saw rental in the verbiage (Required for it to BE one...) people would tell them to get bent like I did when I checked into it

@MadScientist_42 @curdmudgeon1 @DaddyWarpig It's also kind of curious what you are "renting." You bought the printer. You buy the paper. You're paying a subscription fee based on how much you print for the ink to be auto restocked. The ink itself is a consumable good. Are you "renting" the cartridge containing the ink?

@curdmudgeon1 @Budderic @DaddyWarpig It's worth note. The word, "RENTAL," is kind of required by law for it to be clear on this subject. I don't think I missed out on it being in that clause. ;)

@curdmudgeon1 @DaddyWarpig Of course you can do that. But if the company wants to claim that the ink you already have from them wasn't covered by the money you already paid them, then they need to show the accounting breakdown for that.

@MikeVogelius @Noahpinion So, I don't think Americans generally care. Live how you wish. But if it's hot, we don't want to hear some vaguely religious cult babble about how AC units steal souls & windows can't be opened because it's against the rules & clearly the solution is just to control the weather.

I'm not going to invest in an air conditioner for such a short period. In some EU countries, 90% of people have air conditioners, but in Denmark, where I'm from, the figure is less than 5% for the simple reason that it doesn't make sense for most people to own an air conditioner for just four weeks a year.
