Well… (being picky here) just need to add this, Andy. Radar guns back then picked up the ball’s speed as it crossed home. Today’s radar picks up the ball’s velocity as it leaves the pitchers hand. At its top speed. So… Nolan was 95-100 pretty consistently…with today’s tech.

Unless you disengage with the rubber, you can’t make a throw to first or third base unless the fielder is making a move to pick, or holding the runner on. Basic baseball.

For example if he threw the ball into the stands after a jump pick it would have been 1 base awarded as he’s considered a pitcher. If he steps off and throws it into the crowd it would be 2 bases for the runner as he’s then an infielder.
