The thing about the Rory vs Bryson deal to me is that Rory (an Irishman) committed to save the PGA Tour, a UNITED STATES Tour while Bryson sued em and took money from Saudi Arabia to play their clown circuit. Hard core Trumpers back DeChambeau for some weird reason. Rory went to bat for America.

🚨🗣️#PREACH…it isn’t the penalty that is egregious. It’s his actions afterward delaying tee times for the rest of the guys who know how to walk to the back of the ball. So childish and performative just as I said last night.

🚨🗣️👀 #NEW — Watch as Rory McIlroy UNLOADS on LIV star Bryson DeChambeau: “I'm not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it's performative.. think a lot of it's for attention..to hold the tournament hostage…“didn't feel like it was a great look.”

Rory is not fond of Bryson and of course Pat Reed, both of whom have a questionable record when it comes to playing by the rules. Quite right.

Scottie Scheffler played with Bryson DeChambeau yesterday and he reacted to the rules dispute at The Open: “I was out practising. I was playing with him yesterday. I don't really have a ton to say on it. Actually, I do have a ton to say. I haven't decided exactly what I want to say publicly yet. “I do have some thoughts. I just -- I don't really feel like now is the time or place for me to comment. We're in the middle of a tournament, and I'm focused on what I need to do. I need to go out tomorrow and shoot a low round. I'm not really going to expand on it too much.” He was then asked if he will speak publicly in a few weeks: “I don't know. It's just a tough situation, I think. Like I said, I have a decent amount of thoughts, but probably nothing that I'm concerned with right now. “Yeah, just feel like it's not a road I want to go down today. I have a tournament to focus on, and I'm going to go hit a few balls and hit a few putts. It's my job to go out there and shoot a low round tomorrow. Anything outside of that is outside my control.” @TheOpen

Jon Rahm spoke about whether the rules dispute at The Open may energise Bryson DeChambeau, and referenced the personal issues Bryson had earlier on this year when he was emotional after winning in South Africa: “There are some players that do really well when they have some, let's say some extra going on off the course. Some of his better performances this year in Singapore and South Africa, he had -- and I don't know the extent of it -- quite a bit going on off of course, quite a bit. “Some of those things, one of them -- I think it was more than one, but one of them that I learned, I wouldn't wish on anybody, and he was able to perform incredibly well with a lot of added extra, let's say, noise and distraction. “It's a lot easier to do in a regular event rather than an Open Championship when he thought he was going to go to sleep one shot back and finds himself three shots back. “He seems to be doing just fine. Last I checked, he was at 6-under.” @JonRahmOfficial @TheOpen

Here is video of Rory's full quotes on Bryson and the ruling. On the actual penalty: "I think there's no doubt that he improved the line of his backswing. Again, it's like, whether it was careless or whether it was intentional, I don't think it matters. Hopefully it was careless, but I think the two-shot penalty was justified for sure." Added this on everything that played out after the round: "I won't pretend to be up here and defend Bryson. I'm not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it's performative. I think a lot of it's for attention. "To hold the tournament hostage like that, and to have all of us, players, volunteers, everyone waiting on him to depart, I didn't feel like it was a great look." When asked if he thinks Bryson knew what he was doing: "I'm not in his mind. I'm not in his -- but it didn't look good."

I have a serious question… How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to spending their Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at a diner & running errands, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 35 yrs old?

@peterjkostis @GolfChannel You can’t stand behind your ball and trample down the grass to “see your line”. It’s a crystal clear violation. Maybe unintentional, but a clear violation.

Seriously? @GolfChannel ? Why should a player "graciously" accept a penalty that they honestly feel that they didn't deserve? If someone shows me a DEFINITIVE camera angle that showed his swing path was improved then there should be a penalty. But for a commentator to state that he definitely did improve his situation is , in my opinion, more about their personal opinion of Bryson than the facts. There is no down the line video that I have seen.

Hot take: He knew exactly what he was doing. Guarantee if it wasn’t intentional then immediately after trampling the grass he had a feeling that something was off. Watch the part when he sets up for a few short practice strokes. He moves his head around like a robot to make it look like he’s searching for hazard stakes. That was his attempt to make it look like he’s being ultra cautious. 2 shots and move on. If he decides not to play it’s a tough look.
