Today, we recognize Harriet Tubman Day and honor one of Maryland’s most extraordinary leaders. In 2020, then-Speaker Jones and I unveiled a life-sized bronze statue of Harriet Tubman in the Old House Chamber of the State House — the very room where Maryland abolished slavery in 1864. As we observe Women’s History Month, Tubman’s legacy calls on us to stand firmly for justice and defend the dignity and freedom of every Marylander.

This March, we're honoring Women's History Month by featuring some of Maryland's most notable women. Join us as we explore how Marylanders like Rachel Carson, Harriet Tubman, Margaret Brent, Dr. Lillie May Carroll Jackson, and Anna Murray Douglass made Maryland what it is today.
