@AndyStaples @AriWasserman I’m not disagreeing. At the moment, results are not what they would like. I was only responding to premise of “gimmick”. After seeing BB hire, it leads me to consider whether this is conscientious approach. Maybe it’s poorly executed, but still intentional.

Whether Michael Malone approaches things the right way will be completely up to him, but I would not perceive this as a gimmick hire. I think the Bill Belichick thing was a gimmick hire.

@GatorDave_GB No offense to any. I struggle to see how fans can opine for a coach to be fired + want top dollar players and not expect that to fall back on consumer? Expect cable/stream bills to go up too. College sports is a business. All business has same goal: MAKE MORE MONEY.

Admittedly, I overlooked the rev-share angle where schools are on the hook for the roughly $20 million salary cap. But at the same time, SEC just paid out an avg of $72.4 million ($18.6 million increase), and on-field sponsorships are now a thing. I think many fans expected a rise, but likely more than they expected.
